The great outdoors!

I love being outdoors. It’s my ‘go-to’ sanctuary. For me, stepping outside is the perfect way to relax, unwind and switch off from the world, while really appreciating the world around me at the same time too.

We live in a world of technology, which we love. But I find it really important to put down the email and social media, switch off the screen, and simply take in my surroundings. I can still remember the days of no mobile phones. It wasn’t that long ago. Back in the early 90’s, I only knew one person with a mobile!

I’m so lucky to have two beautiful dogs. They’re the best companions and bring me so much happiness and relaxation. We love our walks together. We’re a tight little pack and where I go, they come too and track alongside me, unless a squirrel is on their radar – then they’re off! But, they quickly return as their tree climbing skills are no match for a squirrel. The only time my Cairns may bring me a tiny spot of stress when out is if they find something ‘unsavoury’ to roll in. You can bet, it’ll be on a day when I’m on a tight schedule for work. For them it’s like it’s Christmas Day. For me, I need to get them home and bathed ASAP! The smell can be pungent! But, even then, it still manages to pop a smile on my face.

I should take more photos when out, but I love to be ‘in the moment’. We’re very fortunate where we live to be spoilt with some beautiful parks and countryside walks. But, my absolute favourite place in the world is to be by the sea. I love the water and spent most of my childhood by the coast. I used to windsurf a great deal when I was younger, and it’s something I’m longing to get back into. But, for now, the seashore suits me just fine. The sea air, the sound of the waves and the feel of the sand under my feet or the crunch of the pebbles under my shoes can’t be beaten in my eyes. It’s where I completely switch off. And, the UK is blessed with hundreds of miles of the most breathtaking coastline to visit, and, once you’re there, it’s free! No entry, no admission. Perhaps the cost of a carpark and, of course, you have to buy an ice cream!

I travel light. Just the essentials to hand. I’m a huge advocate of Ultrasun and my go to footwear is Skechers and Vionic when out walking. Having said that, if I’m on the beach, it’s bare foot all the way. You can’t beat it!

Cheers,

Charlie

  1. Stunning photos Charlie, you’re absolutely right when you say that we live in a beautiful country.
Countryside, coast, mountains, Rivers and the ever changing seasons – how lucky are we?
I live in Southsea, Hampshire and although not as rugged as some parts of the country I am never failed to be lifted by the beach and busy Solent with views cross to the Isle of Wight.
Enjoy your summer and thank you for sharing your photographs.

  2. Hi charlie.
Oh WOW those eyes just melt you don’t they…. ” I’m sorry I didn’t mean to ” and yep you melt…… HA, HA.
That’s a lovely photo of the sun, sea and coast…… where is that beautiful place. Just love listening to the sea lapping on to the shore….. the warmth of the sun helps too.
Unfortunately Vionics don’t do my size. Skechers do but not at qvc….
Carry on enjoying your walks with the dogs.

  3. Such a lovely read! Makes you breath in deep, exhale then relax 😊 Made my day so far as I’m off fo work again. It made me appreciate what I have right now. And yes , nothing beats the seaside with the wind on your face and the sand under your feet. Isle of Wight is a great place to live which I sometimes take for granted. Thanks Charlie for making me appreciate that more!
