Christmas Advent Calendar of Wellbeing

I’m a summer baby, August born and beach bred… so as it hits winter I really struggle with motivation to exercise and keep fit. It’s cold outside, pitch black in the morning when I wake up to go to work and dark when I come home. I feel like all my mind and body wants to do is rest, nest and add layers of fat for insulation. Through the winter and especially the festive season, our calorific intake can increase by 50% a day. And not only that, we’re so busy doing things for other people we forget to invest in ourselves.

If you’re like me, every year we earmark January 1st as the time we’re going to make major changes, revamp our nutrition, tackle our bad habits and move our bodies. Has it worked? Does it work? For me, no! I last a month if that! So I, going forward, am going with a different approach and I urge you to join me.

The idea is to have a December Advent Calendar of Wellbeing, in other words doing something to invest in our health and wellbeing every day of December. It doesn’t need to be as hardcore as a run, HIT session or trip to the gym but maybe choose from activities like these:

  • Meditation
  • Reading books
  • Painting/drawing/colouring
  • Yoga
  • Stretching
  • Deep breathing
  • Stair climbing
  • Walking
  • Skipping
  • Kitchen disco dancing
  • Gardening
  • Swimming
  • Dance classes
  • Choir practice
  • Hot long spa bath
  • Sage cleansing
  • Journaling
  • Stand up paddle
  • Weight training etc.

There are lots of ways to indulge in wellbeing these days.

A Fitbit can really help you track your progress and we’ve got several types on our website and hopefully one to suit your budget.

After about three years, yesterday I went for a run. It was hard and I managed about 15 minutes with a combination of jogging and walking. The reason I did this was Jackie Kabler, she inspired me after her 10 half marathons in 10 days! What an achievement!! So thank you Jackie, you’re my hero this week!!

If you need some workout gear for now or January, check out our Sketchers offers too.

So, are you on board? Let’s make December count!

  1. Hiya Chloe, I love watching you and together with centigrade coats. You seem to give him the giggles and that starts you off. I wanted to ask you. When did you get married and I don’t remember you telling us that you were going to. Are there any photos for us to view. I hope you had a wonderful day and I bet you looked beautiful. Many congratulations. I wish you every happiness. From Karen.
