Highs and lows, stars and rainbows

Hi,

Hope everyone is well? I’m writing this blog at the hairdressers – how happy I am to be back here! It’s very different of course, with Perspex screens and stylists in visors and so on, but it feels very safe and I’m so grateful for all the efforts my salon has made to make us feel comfortable. I normally have my hair cut and coloured every six weeks but lockdown has definitely showed me that I don’t need to do it as often as that; I’m so grey now (I started going grey at 14!) that the grey has blended in with the blonde so it hasn’t been nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Still – very glad to see the salons open again!

It’s been a funny few weeks, full of highs and lows. I’ve been really missing friends and family recently, and of course at work I also had to say goodbye to my lovely “roomie” Claire Sutton who left QVC after 22 years. We’ve shared a dressing room for the past seven years (this is the last photo we took in it on her last day!) and there was laughter and also many tears as the lovely Miceal and I helped her to pack all her stuff up. We couldn’t even have a leaving party of course, due to the current restrictions, but we will absolutely be keeping in touch and hope to celebrate her new chapter with her later in the year.

I did have a quiet celebration at home though when the paperback version of my new book The Perfect Couple, was released. The ebook came out back in April and stayed in the Amazon top twenty for 10 weeks;  last week it hit the USA Today bestseller list across the pond and topped the ebook charts in Canada, and I also signed translation deals for Germany and, rather randomly, Sri Lanka. It’s all been rather crazy and I’m so thrilled and grateful. Thank you too for all your lovely messages about it, you’re very kind.

I bought myself a little treat from QVC – not, as you might expect, a piece of jewellery or a new pair of shoes but a telescope! I’ve always been fascinated by space and astronomy, but good telescopes are generally enormous and I didn’t think I’d have room for one at home. Then I had a show where we featured the Celestron Firstscope and I was so impressed! It’s a really compact, table-top telescope which is brilliant for star gazing  and viewing the moon and planets like Venus, Mars and Saturn. I’m waiting for a clear night to see if I can take some photos of the moon through the viewfinder – I’ll share them with you if I get any good ones!

And finally from stars to rainbows. The QVC Beauty Pick of the Month for July is the iconic Ageless Throat and Décolletage Creme from Prai, this time packaged in the most incredible, crystal-encrusted, rainbow-hued jar.  I made a little video to show you – there are no filters or effects or anything on this, this is exactly what it looks like. Amazing neck cream in an amazing pot!

That’s it for now, stay safe.

  4. Hi Jackie, I always read your blog as you are such fun but I have never left a message before. I too noticed that my grey roots were blending quite nicely with my blonde colour, however I can’t wait until the 20th when I will be getting my hair cut and coloured. I had the good fortune to visit South Africa once and I looked through a telescope in a friends garden and I could see Saturn and its rings – fantastic. You will get hooked! Congratulations on your books success – I have just ordered it. I am watching you at the moment on the Skinsense show with the latest TSV. You mentioned you have been using retinol for some time. Can I ask which brand you have used? Thanks

    1. Hi Joan, yes I’m so excited about my telescope, just waiting for a nice clear night (and also I need to try and stay up until it’s properly dark, and I’m doing lots of early shifts at the moment so I’m going to bed at dusk most nights!). Thanks so much, hope you enjoy the book. On retinol, I use lots of different brands – all are good as long as they have that magic retinol! From QVC I’ve used M Asam, Judith Williams and Skinsense. I saw results within a couple of weeks and will never be without it now. Enjoy your hair appointment!

  6. Hi Jackie, I have just read your book “The Perfect Couple” after I heard Ruth Langsford saying how good it was and it was. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down, read it in two days on my Kindle. I think it ought to be made into a tv series. I shall read more of your books. I love you and Ruth together in her fashion and edit shows. Best regards. Carolyn

    1. Hi Carolyn, that’s so kind of you, thank you! And yes Ruth and I do have fun, glad you enjoy the shows. Have a lovely weekend!
