HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and celebrated New Year fittingly too. We’re STILL getting through a lot of our Christmas food. If you read the last blog then you’ll know that Lawrence and I were hosting for the first time and it went pretty well. Lawrence did such an excellent job with all the cooking and, although it was a bit later than intended, he cooked a really tasty Christmas dinner – beef and turkey cooked to perfection is no mean feat! My job was to make the half-finished dining room look nice and I regret to say that I didn’t take any photos of my lovely Christmas table because I thought it looked rather good. I went for silver as I think it complimented our new blue colour scheme nicely, plus our posh set of plates that we were given for our wedding have a silver edge to them so it all went together rather well. And let’s face it, who can resist a silver sequin table runner?!

Lawrence and I both had a few days off together over Christmas, which doesn’t always happen, so it was nice to spend some time together and also to see friends and family. I can’t say I felt very rested after the festive season but hey ho, it was fun!

New Year for me was spent at QVC and it as a lovely atmosphere bringing in the New Year with everyone in the building. We even had a nice buffet, which I can tell you we all made the most of! At midnight, we all went to the back of one of our studios to look out the windows, which are behind the sets and then behind very thick black curtains – from there we could see not only the official fireworks near the London Eye, but displays right across London. It was quite something!

New Year’s Day was a treat as Lawrence had booked for us to go to the races back in October as a birthday gift for me. We had a good time just the two of us and certainly got our steps in! I am not much of a betting woman but do like a little flutter if I actually go to the races (I do whatever minimum bet is though – no big money bets from me!) and I actually won on a couple! If I hadn’t bought myself some chips whilst we were there, I’d have left with more money than I had arrived with – not bad! I should mention this is quite unusual for me as I know nothing about horses and normally just pick a funny name or one that looks at me as they walk around the paddock!

We also popped to a National Trust property with friends last weekend and enjoyed walking through the parquet-floored rooms and admiring the décor. It was Upton House and here is a photo I took from the lawn at the back. The café did a bloomin’ great hot chocolate too!

Back at QVC, we have some great new products and shows coming in with the New Year so it’s worth staying tuned to check out what’s on. Next week there is going to be a fab Today’s Special Value from Judith Williams where most of the products will be supersized. The set is from the Life Long Beauty range and includes the much-lusted-after Rose Oil in a huge size, Intense Eye Repair cream, Ultra Lift Face Cream and the Neck and Decollete Cream. So this is a full moisturising, anti-ageing collection from Judith. The price will obviously be really special, so look out for this being launched on Monday 13th at 9 p.m.

Speaking of supersizes, have you seen our Beauty Pick of the Month? It’s from Skinsense and it is their retinol night serum. Now, last year, Abi bought us a retinol serum for Beauty Pick of the Month and it sold out before the month was up. This one is actually a double strength version and is already proving very, very popular. So, if you loved the last one, I’d get stocked up on this. If you’re unsure about retinol or what it does, have a look at the video on the QVC website to hear Abi explain all about it and what makes her Skinsense version so special.

A quick note about sale items too. The Winter sales continues on QVCUK.com and if you use the code SALE15 when you checkout, you’ll get an extra 15% off any clearance item. We have a bit of everything in the clearance, and it is definitely worth a look.

That’s it from me for now. Sorry there isn’t a huge amount of photos this time but I barely took any over Christmas – I like to think it was because I was having too much of a good time. Funny how the things you photograph the least are often the ones you enjoyed the most looking back isn’t it?!

How was your Christmas? Did you get any good pressies? Any resolutions for the New Year? I don’t do proper resolutions but we have decided to get a move on and get the bathroom done in the house, so we might be putting the dining room on the back burner for a bit. Fingers crossed, in a few months, I can have a bath if I want one and not just a shower!

Until next time,

Kathryn x
