Love this, last week I was down in Devon on my long week off for the first time in ages. Went to a vintage tearoom in, Rectory Farm, Morwenstowe as my lovely friend Sheila was treating me, Sheila is the lady I mention often during my fashion hours! And boy did I have a busy week!

I had six guests staying, all writers who locked themselves in their rooms on their retreat and I did all the cooking. Was quite proud of some of the meals, see below. Had lots of lovely walks and lots of catch ups with lovely friends including Alix, Barbara, Wendy, Sheila, Jennie, Caitlynne, locals Rod, Edward and Anne, plus my good pals Barry and Tom. The Sun came out when the guys arrived which was lovely as it rained most of the time!

""

I hadn’t seen most of them for absolutely ages! It was lovely to see everybody, but my feet didn’t touch the ground ha, ha. Did a couple of countryside walks – have a little look on my Facebook page (Search “Debbie Flint QVC, page”). (If you didn’t realise already, I do regular blogs, video blogs which I post there regularly so follow my social media to find out more). It was the hardest work I’ve done in absolutely ages, and I’m glad I’m not doing that many this year for that reason. Although I will take trips down there again. It’s a holiday let mostly, since Covid. Let’s see how it turns out this year 🙂 I’m back for another one in June. I do love it, especially when the sun shines!

""

Also, last weekend I went to Bath, Dyrham Park to be precise, just outside Bath, to meet up with daughter Lolly, her hubby and my beautiful granddaughter Phoebe aged two. Tons and tons of pictures later, we had an outdoor picnic and fortunately the weather stayed almost dry. Phoebe decided to play with a little three-year-old boy, called Ansel, and after a shy start, they had lots of fun running round around the lawn and throwing themselves on the floor and doing lawn angels ha, ha. It was quite a big deal because Lolly said it’s the first time she’s seen Phoebe play with a youngster, having been apart from most children for much of the last year or so. She went back to nursery this week though so she will enjoy that ultimately.

It’s never enough time is it, but it was better than nothing and I got some belated birthday presents from Lauren and co. I do hope it’s not long before I see them again!

Here is the blog I did when I was with them. What a beautiful place! Someone said it has been used in big new TV series, ‘The pursuit of love!’

SNIPPETS

""

Went to get some plants to add to my lovely garden, from the market in Hatherleigh on Tuesday. Got some nice Geraniums but it wasn’t how it used to be. Alix and I went to The George for a coffee as usual which was lovely, but the market is a shadow of its former self. Such a shame, given that even in the four years I’ve been down there, it used to be so vibrant and buzzing. It’s now mainly a building site for a couple of hundred new homes and even the last market building is going to be demolished so the market people say they don’t know where they are going to go. A real shame as it used to be what Hatherleigh was all about and I loved going there.

""

One of my favourite meals that I cooked was two sausage and two mash. The local butcher, Edwards in Hatherleigh, provided me with seven honey roast and seven pork and leek sausages. And I did ordinary mash as well as whole-grain mustard mash! My favourite – it was delicious. I was much better this week doing all the meals on my own and did not feel phased by it, which is a real development because previously I definitely found myself stressing out! But I can pretty much do it all in my stride now, very proud of myself. 🙂

""

Bake some blue muffins, eat them, and measure the transit time through your body. That’s basically the #bluepoopchallenge – a health challenge being issued by the Covid Zoe app people, looking at how the gut ties into health.

Watch

Davina’s menopause show. Everyone’s talking about it, so they say. So I’ve got it on my list. Apparently some really basic home truths about how menopause affects us all as we get older. Sounds absolutely fascinating and is currently on catch up so don’t miss it. Channel 4, I think. (didn’t have time to watch much else!)
