{"id":95370,"date":"2020-04-14T10:08:16","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T09:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/?p=95370"},"modified":"2020-04-14T15:12:05","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T14:12:05","slug":"keeping-busy-out-in-the-garden-and-my-competition-winner-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/presenters\/alison-keenan\/keeping-busy-out-in-the-garden-and-my-competition-winner-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping busy, out in the garden and my competition winner announcement!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How lovely are you?! \ud83d\ude42 I cannot tell you how much pleasure your comments have given me over this past week or more, and how wonderful it\u2019s been to be able to share them with even more of our friends since I returned to work on Sunday the 5<sup>th<\/sup> April.\u00a0 Such an incredible response to the competition I set in the last blog, and as promised, I\u2019ll be announcing the winner of the \u00a3350 collection of beauty products at the end of this blog. \u00a0It took well over three weeks for me to shake off the cough I was still struggling with last time I wrote, but I\u2019m very relieved to say I\u2019m feeling 100% better now, and thank you so much for all your kind messages and comments not just here, but on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter &#8211; they were a real boost.<\/p>\n<p>Being back at the Q has been a tonic in itself, and everyone backstage has gone above and beyond to keep us safe while we work.\u00a0 After 22 days of self-isolation, it felt very strange leaving the house.\u00a0 The M4 was almost empty on my journey in, \u00a0and although we live fairly close to Heathrow there were very few planes flying overhead.\u00a0\u00a0 I wake up most mornings now to the sound of birdsong, and more recently ducks quacking!\u00a0 Let me introduce Bert and Ethel!\u00a0 I believe that mallards can live between five to 10 years, so there\u2019s every possibility that these two are the same couple that began visiting our garden four years ago.\u00a0 It\u2019s not just the pool they love, but they sit patiently at the bottom of my bird table in the hope some of Richard Jackson\u2019s High Energy bird food might land at their webbed feet! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P8VsNEIPnV0?rel=0\u201d frameborder=\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<p>Since I\u2019ve felt better, I\u2019ve been out in the garden as much as I can &#8211; wrapped up in a hat scarf and gloves before this warm spell.\u00a0 It\u2019s been good to be able to help Colin with the inordinately large number of jobs we\u2019ve been \u2018putting off\u2019 over the last 12 months.\u00a0 Armed with a large brush and equally large rubber gloves, I have finished creosoting the new fence Colin built, and have just the side gates to complete.\u00a0 I love the smell of creosote, it reminds me of my granddad and the tiny little potting shed he and nanny had in their garden.\u00a0 He kept all his tools in there and sometimes I would be allowed to help him plant out his seedlings.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad that QVC\u2019s gardening shows are still going ahead, enabling us to order our plants and keep up with the pots and borders.\u00a0 There\u2019s going to be another Lily Growing Challenge amongst the presenters this year \u2013 we are just waiting on the delivery of our corms! I know a great many of our parks are now closed, so it\u2019s not easy.\u00a0 We just have to take each day as it comes, and keep looking forward.\u00a0 This won\u2019t be forever\u2026<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-95380 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-scaled.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_8937-1536x2048.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having more time on my hand has meant it\u2019s not just the garden that\u2019s had my attention but some of those jobs in the house that I tend to avoid \u2013 like cleaning the silver!\u00a0 That looks so ostentatious written down, but I\u2019m referring to a few silver photo frames, a collection of candle snuffers and a crystal and silver perfume bottle! They look so much nicer when they\u2019re buffed, and it brought back memories of Sunday afternoons sitting with mum, and cleaning the silver cutlery we had then. \ud83d\ude42 I\u2019ve cleared a few kitchen cupboards too \u2013 my prize find being some cider vinegar with a sell-by date of 2011, and I had a field day with my H20 steam mop in the bathroom, loo and kitchen.\u00a0 So gratifying to get it done.<\/p>\n<p>Something else I\u2019ve been meaning to tackle is my inordinately large collection of photos that are not only taking up space on my phone but here on my computer too.\u00a0 When I found the photograph of my olive tree, I also found these memories of my granddaughter Honey when she was first born &#8211; just six weeks before my wedding in 2015\u2026 seems like 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/>\n<p>I\u2019m finding it hard not being able to spend time with her, but we\u2019re keeping up with our bedtime stories, FaceTime conversations and the drawing game.\u00a0 I took a screen shot of us playing so you could admire Honey\u2019s robot! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-95376\" CMA\u2019s in 2014.\u00a0 It made me smile as I mentioned the very same cowboy boots when I was on air with our fabulous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qvcuk.com\/moda-in-pelle\/shoes-&amp;-handbags\/_\/N-c988lZlfpk\/c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moda in Pelle<\/a> footwear range on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<img currently enjoying the new Julian Fellowes period drama Belgravia.\u00a0 Are you watching it?\u00a0 It\u2019s beautifully filmed with a stellar cast and a very clever plot \u2013 I\u2019d highly recommend it.\u00a0 Something else I thought was superb was The Split.\u00a0\u00a0 Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan head up the cast of this complicated drama about a family of divorce lawyers and their clients.\u00a0 I must have been living under a stone as I\u2019d completely missed the highly acclaimed first series, but thanks to BBC iPlayer we were able to catch up and watch both series!\u00a0 Of course many of you have been enjoying the Book Club set up by <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/author\/jackie-kabler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jackie Kabler<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/author\/catherine-huntley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Catherine Huntley\u2019s<\/a> Beginners Guide to Sign Language and <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.qvcuk.com\/category\/presenters\/kathryn-goldsmith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kathryn Goldsmith\u2019s<\/a> Cookery Classes!\u00a0 It\u2019s good to keep in touch this way, and to feel part of something, especially if you\u2019re maybe spending a lot of time on your own.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping to set up something of my own now I\u2019m well, so watch this space \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Knowing that we\u2019re in this together always makes us stronger I feel, and so I want to let you know about a special fund raising campaign that was launched by QVC just last week called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qvcuk.com\/content\/giving-back.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giving Back<\/a>.\u00a0 It is our way of giving something back to the community by donating to The National Emergencies Trust who have partnered with the British Red Cross to raise and distribute funds to support communities in the UK made most vulnerable by the Coronavirus outbreak.\u00a0 QVC UK have pledged \u00a350,000 to the appeal and will donate a further \u00a32 for every \u00a31 QVC staff and customers donate, and together we hope to raise up to \u00a3125,000.\u00a0 A special page has been set up on our QVCUK.com website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qvcuk.com\/content\/giving-back.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QVC UK Giving Back<\/a> and there you will find a blue button you\u2019ll need to click to donate.\u00a0 I know under normal circumstances we\u2019d be out there doing our thing and raising funds in all manner of ways, but because none of us can physically get out there and do our bit, I think this is a great way of showing we care.<\/p>\n<p>And so to the competition I set last time &#8211; your chance to win all these fabulous beauty products that make up the prize worth over \u00a3350.\u00a0\u00a0 I asked you to complete the famous quote that begins \u201cIf you want to be happy\u2026\u201d It was
