Half of the world’s population will experience the menopause, and yet it’s a topic that’s rarely discussed. Unlike pregnancy, which we may not choose or be able to go through, menopause impacts every female at some point in their life.
At QVC, we know that of our 1.3 million customers in the UK, a huge portion of you will be going through the menopause. This milestone time period brings with it a great deal of change, and we’ve spent the last 20 months working on a project that we hope will help our customers who are approaching or going through the menopause, to navigate their journey a little more smoothly.
What happened?
Over the course of 16 interviews with a diverse group of people, we heard time and time again that they often didn’t feel seen or understood, or that they felt overwhelmed (and just didn’t know where to start learning about this life stage).
Here are just a few examples of what our focus group said to us:
A lack of understanding and education around menopause creates anxiety and tension.
Hearing other women talking about common symptoms is really useful – it makes you feel normal and not as alone.
You don’t always know you’re in it – when I was perimenopausal, it wasn’t talked about at all.
Menopause Your Way is a culmination of this exploration, bringing together a huge number of teams at QVC who’ve thought hard about how we can approach menopause in a different way.
What’s our plan?
We’re conscious that every female will and does experience menopause differently. Whether that’s due to their symptoms, their understanding of menopause, or even due to how comfortable they feel talking about the menopause with family and friends, this will all shape how they approach this journey.
Because of this, our plan is to offer digestible, relevant and real content that exists to help you feel empowered and listened to.
Whether you’re a TV watcher or prefer to browse articles and videos on social media, there will be multiple ways to connect. We hope you’ll see us as a trusted resource where you can read first-hand accounts from customers, along with inspirational stories from brand founders and impartial, unbiased advice from some of the top medical experts in menopause care nationally.
As a trusted guide, we won’t sugar-coat the realities of menopause: rather, we’ll provide tools and options for you to consider, that will suit your lifestyle.
What are we doing as a business?
We are proud to share that we’re working hard to receive our Menopause Friendly Accreditation and are committed to being a Menopause Friendly Employer.
That means we are taking steps to understand how the menopause can affect our team members as they navigate midlife and want to do whatever we can to help them feel more comfortable, both in person and when working remotely.
How can you get involved?
Over the next few months you’ll be able to share your experiences on social media, tune in to dedicated Menopause Your Way shows on QVC Live and engage with a selection of informative articles and videos written by menopause experts. You’ll have a huge variety of resources at your fingertips so you can handle menopause, your way.
