How to style a tunic top

Easy to dress up and down, tunic tops are incredibly useful to have in your wardrobe and are flattering staples that can be worn all year round. To show you just how versatile they can be, we have a few ideas on how to style a tunic top depending on the season, so you’ll know exactly what to wear them with come rain or shine!

Summer

Summer tunics come in a host of styles perfectly suited to the warmest season of all. Even long sleeve types are ideal, and a great alternative should you wish to keep your arms covered when it’s too hot for layers.

Keeping it casual:

Try teaming your tunic top with a floaty, airy, pair of wide leg trousers and your favourite sandals. Add a cross-body bag if you’re out running errands and don’t forget your sunglasses or a fabulous hat if the sun is beaming down!

Dressing things up:

Go for trousers in a cropped length and help to elongate your legs with either wedge sandals or strappy heels. For added glam, pop on a statement necklace and any other extra sparkle you like!

Autumn

Thanks to their loose fit and comfortable feel, tunic tops lend themselves well to the cosy autumn months too and create a flattering silhouette when paired with an autumn wardrobe staple… leggings!

Keeping it casual:

Elevate your loungewear looks by combining joggers or leggings with a tunic top and relax at home in comfort. If you’re heading out, you’ve got the choice to go a little smarter by adding a fabulous pair of flats or to embrace casual-day styling with trainers. Layer on a cardigan for extra warmth if required.

Dressing things up:

Autumn calls for dusting off your trusty boots, so slip into a heeled pair, along with slim-fitting trousers and your tunic top for an instantly pulled-together autumnal look. A biker jacket and a long statement necklace will give your outfit a super chic edge ideal for evening.

Winter

Look out for knitted and long sleeve tunic tops that will help to provide added warmth on chilly days or opt for shorter styles that you can layer under jumpers and jackets easily.

Keeping it casual:

Create a fabulous everyday ensemble by teaming a tunic top with thick leggings and boots. Layer up in a coatigan or coat, scarf and woolly hat on really cold days, and you’ll be snug as a bug whether you’re out doing a spot of Christmas shopping or enjoying a brisk winter walk.

Dressing things up:

Heading out for lunch with the girls, a dinner date, or to a party? Choose a tunic top that features a touch of glitzy embellishment or an on-trend print, then team it with a pair of jeggings and your favourite heels. Alternatively, tuck your tunic into a midi skirt and pull on a pair of over-the-knee boots for an elegant outfit everyone’ll be complementing you on.

Spring

Floaty, printed and colourful tunics are all the rage come spring and look gorgeous with everything from bright trousers to cropped jeans!

Keeping it casual:

Nature is starting to wake up, the days are beginning to brighten and all you want to do is get out there right? So, grab a tunic top, put on a pair of jeans, slip on some flats… and hey presto, you’re good to go! Add a cross-body bag if needed to finish off this simple yet effective, everyday spring look.

Dressing things up:

For a smart look suited to work or weekend outings, try a shirt-style tunic paired with cropped trousers, then add a few key pieces of jewellery and either chic flats like loafers or glamorous heels. Spring breeze in the air? Pull on a short cardigan or jacket for added warmth.
