Outfit ideas for garden get-togethers

For many, meet-ups with friends and family are finally possible again and although they might be outdoors for now, the sun is appearing more often, the evenings are brighter for longer and the barbecues are well and truly being lit! Inevitably it does cause some confusion in the wardrobe department though, especially when one minute it’s scorching and the next freezing in true British spring weather style.

So to help you enjoy more time out there reconnecting with your loved ones and less time inside thinking about what to wear, here are a few outfit ideas for garden get-togethers this season.

The BBQ

Food, drink, music and fun, barbecues are happening in abundance right now and we’re all for it! Tending to be more of a casual affair, you can’t go wrong with a classic jeans and Tee combo here but as it might’ve been a while since you last got together… it’s a nice excuse to dress up a little too!

Teaming this printed Chevron skirt from Joules with a white T-shirt and a pair of white trainers strikes the perfect balance between casual and dressy. Or if the thought of BBQ sauces and potential spills has you worried, opt for a top in a darker colour such as this Nina Leonard top in Black and finish off with these Lyss sandals from Dune for a glamorous edge.

The cuppa

Put the kettle on, cut into that cake and enjoy an afternoon of smiles, laughs and much-needed catch ups with the girls (we’re not crying, you’re crying). Although it’s ‘just’ a get-together over a cup of tea, we know it means so much more and so why not push out all the stops with a fabulous frock! There are plenty of great choices in our dresses department and two we’ve currently got our eye on are from WULI:LUU by Gok Wan.

A genius in designing pieces that flatter your figure and make you feel utterly gorgeous, Gok delivers in every way with this stunning palm print maxi dress, which also comes in Petite, as well as this slightly more toned down but no less fabulous tiered maxi dress, also available in Petite. Whichever frock you rock, pop on a pair of wedge sandals (and a cardigan if required) for a chic ensemble everyone will be oo’ing over!

The family feast

Kids running around, dog bounding about the place and an al fresco feast for the family to prepare – this calls for something slightly more practical. Think a jumpsuit you can move freely in or even your favourite pieces of loungewear dressed up with a hint of sparkling jewellery.

One ensemble we think would work perfectly for this occasion starts with a tunic top like this tiered one from Joules or longline one from Frank Usher, pans down to pull-on trousers such as this palazzo pair from Nina Leonard and ends with your go-to sandals for a spring/summer finish. Effortless, breathable and comfy, it’ll take you from food prepping to sitting down with a glass of something in style.

The evening campfire

There’s no denying that at this time of year we’ve not quite yet said goodbye to the cold. Outside in the evening when the sun disappears, it’s amazing how quickly it suddenly feels like the middle of winter again. But hey… we’ve got you covered (in every sense of the word!) so there’s no need to call it a night.

Long-sleeved tops like the Nadine and Priya designs from Monsoon will provide added warmth as the evening draws in and look effortlessly fashionable styled with jeans. You’ll likely need more layers later in the evening though (no matter if you’ve got the firepit going!), so layer on a cosy cardigan or coat and some snuggly socks.

Top tip – be prepared for any occasion when meeting outside in the garden by packing a bag of extra layers to turn to should you need them, such as a jumper, a beanie hat and scarf or even a blanket!
