Whether your pooch loves a trot through the park or an adventure in the wilderness, walks are a daily routine for most dog owners, come rain or shine! Needing to be outdoor-ready, sometimes in an instant, means it’s a good idea to have a number of outfits up your sleeve for walks of all types. So we’ve pulled together a selection of ideas that even your furry companion will approve of!
The crack-of-dawn outing
Your alarm goes, there’s a faint glimmer of light coming through the window and you think about pressing snooze… but there’s a patient (or not so) pooch waiting for their morning walk! This is where you want a grab-and-go kind of outfit, especially if you’re not an early bird. Leggings are a good go-to here, as you can quickly pull them on with little effort and team them with a comfy top or tunic. No matter the season, mornings can feel fresh, so it’s good to have a jumper to hand too for layering up.
Tip – if you’re not much of a morning person, we suggest laying out your outfit next to your bed ready for that wake up call.
The ‘are we going out in that?’ foray
It’s raining, it’s pouring… and you’ve got to venture out there. This is where a good coat is a must! Ideally something that’s water-resistant and has a hood. Joules has a fantastic selection of raincoats perfectly suited to the unpredictable British weather, from a parka you can pack away if it suddenly brightens up to a mid-length canvas coat that’ll keep you covered up in style. A pair of wellies or waterproof boots like these Trego boots from Skechers will also help keep your feet dry and toasty.
Tip – if it’s not raining when you’re about to go out, it’s still worth checking the weather forecast for any potential downpours.
The socially-distanced stroll
A socially-distanced walk with a loved one is a fantastic way for you to enjoy each others company in the great outdoors and have a good catch-up while you exercise your four-legged friend. This is where you’re more likely to want to blend practicality with style, for a fashionable yet functional ensemble. Think jeans, trainers and a casual T-shirt, paired with a chic jacket. For a smarter look, ideal for walks around town or the park, try partnering your favourite trousers with some sophisticated boots or flats, a blouse and a cardigan, if you need the extra layer.
Tip – take a cross-body or bum bag with you as a stylish, hands-free way to complete your look that also doubles up as a treat dispenser!
The woodland hike
There’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in nature with your best bud, but it does take a little bit of extra fore-planning. If you’re going for a long one, it can be useful to take a backpack to carry essentials like water, snacks, spare layers and first aid supplies (for both you and your dog!). A pair of decent walking boots or shoes like these Skechers hiking boots will also help you to enjoy your adventure in comfort, no matter how many steps you’re aiming for.
Tip – take a spare pair of socks with you in case of rubbing, blisters or if the pair you’re wearing get wet. You’ll thank yourself for it later!
We hope we’ve given you some outfit inspiration for outings with your pooch. You can find a wide range of styles in our fashion, shoes and accessories departments to help complete your looks and should you need anything for your pet, we’ve got an ever-expanding pet care range too.
