When we think of luxury bath and body products, Molton Brown is often the first brand to come to mind. Why? Well, apart from being used in five-star hotels and stylish homes across the world, this longstanding industry hero has been a favourite of many for a long time. So much so, that we’re now celebrating the brand’s 50th anniversary!
This lauded name has a rich history that has shaped the range you see today. We’ve taken a dive into the archives to bring you the lowdown on this beauty institution.
Molton Brown originated, believe it or not, as a hair salon in 1971, owned by Caroline Burstein and Michael Collis. During the 70s, this duo began infusing their botanical formulas with freshly-cut herbs, flowers and the finest ingredients, mixing up products in the salon’s basement to bring their vision of naturally-influenced luxury into being. This focus on unique, individual products helped the pair gain many an A-list fan and spread the Molton Brown name.
Co-founder Caroline had always been influenced by fashion – her parent’s founded Brown’s boutique. This style-led ethos helped to develop Molton Brown’s iconic look, while Caroline directed all styling, visual merchandising and marketing. She built the brand into the beauty powerhouse it is today, mixing luxe formulas and delicious fragrances with an inherently British feel.
In fact, the brand’s first signature scent is still a favourite among many today. Orange Grove was developed in 1984, and eventually transformed into Orange & Bergamot. By the 2000s the team at Molton Brown had teamed up with master perfumer Jacques Chabert and his daughter Carla to create more fabulous fragrances, including Re-charge Black Pepper, Heavenly Gingerlily, Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel and Fiery Pink Pepper.
Today, the Molton Brown line up has grown, and is filled with fragrances to suit every taste, from the dramatically floral Rosa Absolute to the zesty Invigorating Suma Ginseng. Plus, the range has come a long way from it’s haircare days, adding beautifully scented layering collections, intensive hand care formulas and more to the mix too. With so much on offer, it’s no wonder Molton Brown has stood the test of time.
Happy 50th anniversary, Molton Brown! We can’t wait to see what the next 50 years hold. In the mean time, be sure to check out the rest of the range to discover more indulgent formulas.
