Sarah Carr’s guide to relaxation

These days we all try to subscribe to a more laidback lifestyle because we know stress isn’t good for us, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. That’s why unwinding after a long, busy day can be essential for our health and wellbeing. We sat down with Liz Earle ambassador Sarah Carr, to discover her top relaxation tips and how we can apply them to our own lives.

As well as being an ambassador for Liz Earle, Sarah is a trained yoga teacher and likes to focus on maintaining a positive attitude and regular exercise routine. Along with her great diet, it all combines to make her a guru when it comes to destressing!

Hi Sarah! First of all, why is it so important to make time for de-stressing during the day?

Understanding how stress affects you and learning what you can do throughout the day can help prevent it from building up. Little things like going for a walk, taking some slow deep breaths, writing a list of the things that are stressing you out and calling a friend to help share the load can really help.

Great thinking! Taking a look at stress before it gets overwhelming is a really helpful tool to keep things calmer. At the end of a long day, what do you like to do to help you unwind?

I’m such a creature of habit! I think I know what works for me and stick to it. Early dinner, write a to-do list, switch my phone off, drink a relaxing tea, book, skincare routine, bath and bed!

Taking a moment for a skincare session is one of our favourite ways to unwind too! How do you use your beauty routine to help you destress? Care to share any of your must-have formulas?

“Skincare products are my go-to for relaxing me and my skin. I love Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser to either prep my skin of a morning or remove the stresses from the day. Having a regular routine is my time to switch off and enjoy my products, instead of it being a chore. Face oils are my savoir for facial massage and face masks are my big treat, and Balancing Gel Mask is done without fail three mornings a week, I love that mask! I’m a huge fan of DIY beauty too and make sheet masks (made from our Liz Earle Pure Cotton Cloths) infused with oat or rice water and natural yogurt is my favourite weekly skin treat. It would be rare for you to see me without nail varnish too! Manicures and pedicures are a big part of my beauty routine. Neom is one my bath oil faves too.

From essential oils to candles, fragrance plays such a role in helping us to destress. What are your go-to scents to help you slip into a calm and relaxing routine?

“I’ve used the Neom rrollerballs for a few years, I got bought them when my son was in hospital and they were incredible at supporting how I felt. The moment I pop some Neom De-Stress in the bath it is like someone giving you the most comforting cuddle! My other go-to fragrance is Liz Earle Liz Earle Botanical Essence No 1.”

Thanks for all your top tips Sarah, we’ll definitely be incorporating some of your ideas into our routine this evening!
