Stacking necklaces, bracelets and watches, earrings and rings – jewellery layering is a trend that isn’t going anywhere, that’s for sure. But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. What necklaces work well? Which rings look best stacked together? In truth, there’s no definite way to mix and match your jewellery – it’s definitely not one size fits all. But if you’ve no idea where to start or need a nudge in the right direction, we’ve got some tips to guarantee a stylish jewellery stack every time. And just a note – its perfectly fine (more than fine!) to layer more than one type of jewellery in the same look. Just follow our tips for each separate part (earrings, rings, necklaces etc), and then use our last tip to ensure they look great both separately, and together too. Choose your base A simplistic foundation should always be on your list. This could be a couple of pieces or just one. Think a delicate chain, a classic watch like this one from Diamonique by Tova, or band ring. Something fairly minimal or simple. This helps to ground your stack, making it look more effortless and not too OTT. We think this flat herringbone bracelet from Diamonique is the perfect place to start. Think about a focal point This is a centerpiece for your stack. Whether you have a delicate pendant (we love the star cut of this Diamonique one) or a chunky chain to draw the eye, large hoops to set your stack scene, or a sparkling rock to center your rings around, you can build your look around a piece just like you would an outfit. If you’re feeling bold, a piece like this Lola Rose Kreena necklace or these Dannii Minogue Megastar Earrings are perfect. Size matters A crucial part of jewellery layering is allowing your pieces to shine through and not crowd each other out. Finer pieces sit well together in most scenarios, but for example when it comes to necklaces, different lengths and shapes are crucial to getting the layering look spot-on. Fine rings and earrings always look incredibly chic together. This Diamonique set of round studs in different sizes can be worn  up your ear stack for a very cohesive, minimalistic look. Or, if you’ve chosen a large pair of earrings or a statement ring for your earring and ring stack, think about graduating away from that focal piece with smaller, finer additions. Bracelets lend themselves particularly well to this, especially if you’re pairing with a watch. For your wrists, try this dazzling Diamonique watch, or bracelet, paired with another smaller sparkling piece like this Diamonique pave link bracelet, and then complete with a couple more delicate pieces such as these Kings Road bracelets by Lola Rose. Make some shapes Again, there’s no hard and fast rule, but a good way to think about this is to either match or contrast your shapes. If you’re wearing chains or rings that are a similar size and colour, different shapes can create a cool-looking contrast. A simple way to do this is to team round stud earrings like this set from Diamonique, and pair with these Diamonique Star studs – same gemstone, same style – just contrasting shapes. You can choose to deviate a little too – your shapes don’t have to completely mirror each other. So with a necklace like this round locket, you could pair with a fine chain with round stations like this one from Diamonique to help to echo your focal piece. Add an element of colour We love a monochrome jewellery look, and stacks look gorgeously chic in the same metal colour. But if you feel like there’s something missing, you could try adding in a different hue to the mix. Whether it’s mixing your metals (always an on-trend look in our opinion), adding in colourful gemstones like the ones in this Diamonique bracelet or some coloured beads like the Eversham bracelet or the Oscy necklace from Lola Rose, it can lift your layering look to the next level. Contrast textures Textures are a great way to add a different element of interest to your layering effort. It’s very understated, and if you want to keep all your jewellery the same colour, its an alternative way to create a multi-dimensional look. Different chains can be a good way to try this, for example, pair our base herringbone chain bracelet with a twisted rope chain, and complete the look with a smooth rope chain like this vintage-style friendship bracelet. Think holistically Most importantly, whatever jewellery you’re layering, it’s a good idea for have an element of  synergy to your pieces. Whether that’s the same metal colour, stone colours or shapes, try to keep one part the same for a theme to (metaphorically) tie them all together. As the autumnal days begin to roll in, it’s easy to be unsure about what to wear. Summer clothes still hang in the wardrobe, but there’s a breeze that puts you off wearing your favourite sundress. This is where transitional fashion comes in, and we’re revisiting five summer fashion staples, styling them to suit the changing season.

Jeans

While jeans are a year-round staple, light-wash denim and white jeans can fall out of favour in exchange for indigo and black as the year goes on. Yet, with brown, tan, cream, grey and white all looking fabulous against lighter denim, there are a lot of options on hand to carry your favourite pair through autumn. A cream jumper will look great with white jeans for a tonal ensemble that oozes sophistication, while a tan jacket paired with light blue jeans and a white vest top will give a laid-back look that’s still put together.

Shirt

A timeless staple in any wardrobe, the humble white shirt is an easy piece to carry over into autumn. It sits beautifully under a jumper with a statement necklace to add an extra touch of glam, can be tucked into slim-fit trousers and teamed with a pair of boots, or accessorised with a scarf to keep you warm if things get a little chilly. A well-fitting shirt will also be key in your evening wardrobe. For drinks with friends or a nice dinner, try a shirt worn over black jeans, and add your favourite heels and a biker jacket for good measure. This’ll be a great option for staying stylish and warm during the early days of autumn.

Maxi dress

Everyone loves a maxi dress, but tend to make them redundant as soon as the kids are back to school. However, pairing a maxi with your winter knitwear can create a look that’s both stylish and functional. A jumper with a slightly shorter length will not only keep you feeling cosy, but will accentuate your waist at it’s narrowest point. If you’re a big cardigan fan, try an over-sized style belted at the middle to create the same hourglass effect. Why not bring your summer accessories into the mix too? A wide-brimmed hat will top off this look beautifully, channelling that boho vibe that never goes out of style.

Denim jacket

That’s right – a lightweight denim jacket is not just for summer. With clever layering, this warm-weather essential can be integrated into your repertoire for cloudier days. On mornings where simplicity is key, try a denim jacket over a fine-knit jumper or a long-sleeved top and add a big scarf if it feels needed. Weather looking set to change? Try a layered look incorporating your denim jacket can be a great way to prepare for all eventualities. For an ensemble that looks fresh off the A/W catwalk, try layering an over-sized shirt with a white T-shirt and add your jacket on top. For chilly days, you could also add a coat over your denim jacket. Uber chic and great for cold mornings.

Sandals

So you’re not wearing a flirty sundress with gladiator sandals, but that doesn’t mean you cant get a few more weeks of wear out of your summer shoes! Trade the skirts for your jeans and throw on a 3/4 length-sleeved top and you’re good to go, or pair with a layered midi dress look for that “last days of summer” feel (although not recommended on a rainy day… wet toes? No thanks!)

As the long nights start to draw in, there’s one thing we know for certain: winter is on its way! A chic yet practical winter look can sometimes be a minefield, so we’ve picked our favourite pieces and created a capsule collection that can be layered to create a warm seasonal look that doesn’t compromise on style.

The base

Going from the chilly outdoors to the warmth of central heating can cause us to go from shivering to sweating in seconds. To avoid this, we’ve opted for light layers that look gorgeous on their own or as part of a stylish layered look. We’ve gone for the 3/4 length sleeve paisley print jumpsuit from Kim & CoJoe Browns jeggings, plus the printed 3/4 length sleeve tunic top and printed cosy cowl neckline dress from Nina Leonard. These pieces are all great options for your outfit base, offering coverage and warmth without being heavy or restricting. They will look stunning alone and will also complement other styles for when you need that something extra.

The extra layer

One of our most coveted pieces for this year is the Rino & Pelle faux-fur gilet. This gorgeous gilet just exudes style, and can be worn over your favourite jumpers, dresses and long-sleeved tops as a fantastic layer if you’re someone who quickly feels the heat. We will certainly be adding this gilet to our wardrobes for some luxurious texture and classic design.

The shoes

Winter shoes can be a difficult one. You want something that looks great without having to worry about feeling cold. We love the All Weather Gravelly boots from Emu. This timeless boot lends itself to being worn with trousers, skirts and dresses, making it a truly versatile choice. With a warm sheepskin lining, you can guarantee that your toes will stay toasty throughout the day and with the all-weather coating there is no need to panic if it starts to rain.

The accessories

This is where you can add those extra warm layers. Hats, scarves and gloves are all chic options for when it comes to fighting off the chilly air while adding some beautiful detail to your outfit. Frank Usher offers some stunning cold-weather accessories. We’ll be embracing the faux-fur trend this year in these gloves and matching scarf that’ll leave you looking fabulous and feeling supremely snug.

The outfit

So now we have our capsule wardrobe, it’s time to mix and match to create some stylish looks that are perfect for chilly days.

A day in the office

No matter how you commute to work, it can get quite stuffy if you’re all wrapped up. We’ve chosen to keep things simple for this look, pairing Nina Leonard‘s trapeze dress with the Frank Usher faux-fur scarf. For the journey, we think the Emu boots are great – especially if you have to run for the bus! Just swap them for a pair of court shoes when you arrive for a classic workwear style.

A day of running errands

Comfort is key here. You’ll find yourself in and out all day, so it’s important to have a cosy look that won’t leave you feeling too hot under the collar. We’ve paired Nina Leonard‘s 3/4 length sleeve tunic top with jeggings from Joe Browns, and added the Emu boots, faux-fur Frank Usher gloves and Rino & Pelle faux-fur gilet for that extra feeling of cosiness.

A night on the town

Just because long nights have arrived, fun evenings out don’t need to stop. The 3/4 length sleeve paisley print jumpsuit from Kim & Co is a fun and feminine design that can be dressed up appropriately for the occasion. Wrap up with the Rino & Pelle gilet and add the Frank Usher faux-fur gloves and scarf for a truly luxurious winter look.

That’s our wardrobe sorted for the season! What will be your go-to look for winter? If you want even more inspiration, be sure to check out our edit of Winter Essentials.
