Gang’s here! Hols in Hastings and sneaky peeks!

This wonderful shot featuring all four of the poggies in my life happened when I was in Hastings for a few days this week. Nice to get together with the family again and do some more of our famous long walks on the beach. This blog is part one, part two may be next week. 🙂 With a canine-themed update for this week, here’s a super picture featuring Ziggy, Maggie, Daisy and Beau. (Sounds like some new band or kids TV gang! Ha ha.) So, needless to say, there were lots of long walks. One featured a particularly happy Ziggy when he got as far as the sea.

I didn’t want to let him off the lead just in case he got carried away! There was so much sunshine, within a couple of hours he was completely dry again. Had some nice cuppas in the town again as usual, and most of our days out were filled with sunshine. Looking forward to getting down to Devon and also to Wales next week, now we can all move around again. Isn’t a bit more freedom a wonderful thing!?

By the way, contrast it with my mum‘s video from the balcony on the morning I was supposed to go down to Hastings. It had all gone by the time I woke up! I posted it as a vlog here – not me doing it for a change though. 🙂 Amazing! Only in the UK, eh?! Did you have snow?

New brand this Sunday – Bodyography

This lovely cosmetics brand arrives this Sunday at 8pm and I’m thrilled to launch it.

My niece, Becky, who is one of the Make-Up Junkies, did my make-up and did an amazing job with some of their products, including the most fabulous creamy sparkle eyeshadows, the highlighter, and a smooth-as-silk foundation (I used Tan and Medium and blended them.)

Hair by Dyson Airwrap as usual. By the way, you get a little o-shaped filter cleaner in the box with it, don’t forget to use it if it suddenly starts making funny noises and not working. Found that out from Youtube this week. 🙂

In case you’re wondering, my headband is from Frank Usher, my necklace is Bibi Bijoux and my jacket is from Nina Leonard (it has 200-odd five star ratings!)

Snippets

Ziggy vignette

It may have been this time last year I was in Hastings when it was boiling hot and I took a picture of that boat, which I then tweaked with the program on my iPhone and came up with a lovely shot. Well, I did the same with a picture of Ziggy the dog being his model-best down by the bottle alley in Hastings. I love it!

Your-stories@qvc.com

If you’d like to get your face model-ready, you can tell your story to Alison Young on her Beauty Insider shows. We are looking for people to send in videos of themselves talking about their problems or their beauty finds. Just email her on the address above and you may find yourself featuring on one of the shows! Meanwhile here’s the full selection of our beauty deals at the moment, many on clearance!

Puffy hand

Mind you, serves me right for playing around in the sunshine too much, this is what happened to my hands. I could feel it starting, and suddenly the next day, there it was. My condition is called Erythropoeietic Protoporphyria, or EPP, in case you’ve never heard me mention it. Regulars will know that it’s very rare. A genetic condition where I don’t have a certain ferrochelatase enzymes in my body, which means remnants not used in making blood accumulate inside the capillaries and explode with exposure to too much violet light. So what you can see is a load of lymph floating around under the skin. It’s tender, but not too painful this time, sometimes it feels like someone is ironing my hands! That’s why you’ll almost always see me covered up when it’s sunny!

Watch

I finished watching Grace and Frankie, and cannot wait for the next Outlander (anyone know when it’s on?) Meanwhile, I am getting myself steeled for watching Line of Duty from the beginning. However, since Bill Nighy is one of my favourites, you can imagine how thrilled I was to see that right now on Netflix, there are three options to see him. ‘Page Eight’, a political thriller that I started watching the other day from 2011; ‘Salting the Battlefield’ from 2014, including Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes, where he plays an MI5 officer on the run across Europe. There’s also ‘Turks and Caicos’, once more featuring Helena Bonham Carter as well as Winona Ryder – it’s a follow-up to the other one. I really don’t know how I missed seeing these six years ago. I’m going to have a right old Bill Nighy binge over the next few days and when I am in Devon and Wales next week!

Podcast

Although we’re certainly having weird weather at the moment, Will sat down to talk to Abi Cleeve from Ultrasun for a Suncare Special! Next week, he speaks to founder of new brand Freya + Bailey, Abbie Oguntade. You can listen to them all here.

Book of the week

Just started listening to A Woman of No Importance, the one about the most amazing resistance spy in World War II. But I need to listen to Citizen by Claudia Rankine for my book club meeting this Sunday. It’s one of the shortest I’ve ever downloaded, and is a bit heavy: “our addressability is tied to the state of our belonging”, Rankine argues, “as are our assumptions and expectations of citizenship.” Oh well, if I don’t like it, I can always use it to go to sleep with! I must admit I’d rather listen to stories about time travelling or a policeman who can do magic! LOL.

QVC top deals for the next seven days

Friday (today) – go here to see and buy what’s left of the beautiful Diamonique chainlink bracelet watch in stainless steel, very affordable, specially for Diamonique day. I will be on for 4 o’clock and with Dannii Minogue at 8pm, I think!

Saturday – time for the L’Occitane Almond Top to Toe collection which is on sale already, go here to see and buy it. Considering how much had gone of the Elemis Today’s Special Value before launch last week, it will be a good idea to get in early! Friday 9pm – going on sale earlier in the week, tech time with Amazon Fire HD 10 32GB tablet with SD card. Lee cannot wait!

And also going on sale early, it’s our Beauty Day on Sunday, so the TSV is Laura Geller’s four-piece Face It All collection. Don’t miss it 🙂

Next week – a bit more from Hastings, but also news from Devon and a picture from Wales. 🙂 I do get about a bit, don’t I? 🙂

Have a lovely week whatever you’re doing, and hopefully it will be out and about! 🙂 I can’t wait to go and see this one – little Phoebe down in Wales aged two and a half-years-old, just look how long her hair has grown! Can’t wait for cuddles, haven’t seen her since December.

Best wishes,

Debs

  1. Enjoy your Hastings trip. If you have any spare time and have never been visit Rye. About 10 miles from Hastings. If you love junk shops, tea rooms and quaint places Rye is definitely for you. (I lived there when I was young)

  2. Hi debs love keeping up to date with you and your family. Love your honesty when you do your shows , it really helps when considering wether to buy or not. Has JIll Franks now left qvc not seen or heard anything about her since February ,keep checking her blogs but nothing ,wondered if she had unfortunately caught Covid like Kathy Tayler did or if she had moved on elsewhere.
