Another busy week of gallivanting, and Sleeptember!

Last weekend I raced around all over the place, including a quick visit to see my little great-nephew Arthur who was two. I had some cuddles with the two babies there, including another of the great-nephews, baby David, the third in the dynasty in our family!

Firstly, I saw off my lovely niece Chloe who goes back to Australia as part of her around the world trip. Her mum Nikki uses Richard Jackson‘s Flower Power Plant Food and has an amazing display again this year. We all posed for this picture in front of her window boxes.

It’s always nice to see that side of the family, and the sun was shining when we first arrived. Soon afterwards, it started spitting and to be honest the weather has not really improved since then! Are we really in autumn now?

Mummy and Lauren time

Plus I had more trips to Wales and Devon. Regulars will remember a week or so ago when I featured a big 30th birthday party in my blog for my lovely daughter Lauren. Well, it was her actual birthday this week, so I went to Wales to see her again. It was so nice as we spent a whole day together, and she relished being a ‘shopper’ again, and having another outing alone with her own mummy (me!) like we used to. Baby Phoebe, nearly one-year-old, stayed at home with her daddy, but I got to “pogger” her (a Flint family word for cuddle her up!) when we got back. She is just the cutest thing, she really looks like a ginger baby version of Paloma Faith with her beautiful porcelain skin, little pink nose and bright blue eyes. And she is nearly walking as well. It won’t be long. She says bird now too, or rather, “burr”. Plus, while I was in Wales we did a first, as you’ll see below.

Talking of firsts, there was a funny graphic going round on social media this week, which featured a long list of achievements, common or unusual things people have done in their lives, and it challenges you to say how many you have “never ever” done yourself. I only had one! Can you guess what one it was! What about you? Here’s the list…

The weekend’s highlights

The Old Bull and Bush!

This week I went to stay with my friend Shyama for a night and we actually went out! Yes, “out, out!” The place we went to was The Old Bull and Bush, you know the one from the old music hall song? Anyway, we had a great catch up, looked around at all the young people in groups there that night, and felt very old, sat talking about our lack of luck on dating sites and laughed until we cried. Have known my lovely friend since 1990 and she has seen me through thick and thin. She couldn’t believe that my Lauren, who first played in Shyama’s paddling pool in her back garden when she was about one-year-old, was really 30. How time flies. So nice to have a catch up.

A sloe first

Did two things this week for the first time ever. In Wales, I picked some sloes, for sloe gin! My friend Sheena, and also Alix in Devon, both like the idea of making sloe gin, so when we found a field that had some sloes in it, I got picking. I don’t think they are quite done yet but apparently if you put them in the freezer they will get juicier. Some were dried up and shrivelling off so I picked the ones that looked the most purple. Hope I got it right! Any tips? Here is the vlog I did when I was in the field! And the other thing was drank gin while on air!!

Food fest

Had two hours of nibbling at delicious Great Taste Award winners last week, and was really impressed with the diversity of culinary creations we now offer in our food department. From chocolates to cheese, through chutneys and jams, gins and cassis, advent calendars and cookies, brownies and pies… The list goes on. Go here to see a whole range, all with the 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee, and if you buy before Sunday 8th ends, they all count towards the latest Shop and Save voucher offer! Don’t forget 🙂 And talking of award winners, go here on our website to see who won last week’s QVC Beauty Excellence Awards 🙂 well done everybody, another bumper turnout this year!

Sleeptember

Clever play on words, and as the focus is to concentrate on getting more z’s, I’ve been trying… and failing …mostly, so far this month 🙂 I do need to get my act in gear however, as my next annual QVC medical is next month. Everything has been fine every year so far and I don’t want to break the record. There’s nothing like a good night’s kip to make me feel really good, what about you?

To tie in with Sleeptember, we now have a new category-based bedding page that is packed full of fabulous features. I know lots of people turn to QVC for their beds and mattresses, this is because you get them delivered directly and you get the chance to trial them. Complete the look with some of the lovely cushions and throws perhaps. All of my bedding both in London and at home in Devon is now K by Kelly Hoppen or high thread count Northern Nights. I love it! Makes me feel like I’m a grown-up ha ha.

Book of the week

Sweet Sorrow, the highly anticipated new novel by David Nichols (the author of One Day), narrated by Rory Kinnear. In 1997, Charlie meets Fran and she turns his world upside down. If he wants to get her, he has to join the Company, which sounds sinister and turns out to be worse…. I’m looking forward to this enormously as I very much enjoyed his first blockbuster One Day. Not so hot on the next one, but this sounds great! Another good audiobook to keep me company on my long journeys 🙂

Watch

Having seen most of the offerings lately, and in the gap before the September big films come along like Judy and Downton Abbey, I would recommend A Confession. On ITV catch up, this is Martin Freeman‘s latest outing. He is always good value and I try to watch his shows. This one is based on true life however, revolving around a detective’s difficult choices over the disappearance of a girl and the race to save her. Sounds great!

This week on QVC

Monday 9thVercella Vita time, and a super new set of two, this time the Medium Control pack of camis with an all-over rose design. Great value considering there are two. I will be doing the 3pm show as I’m on a little bit earlier Monday, fingers crossed it lasts. I’m going to the theatre in the evening to see something about an iguana…?! My friend Sara chose it, so it should be fun 🙂

Tuesday – First thing to say is that the early bird order link for Elemis and the new massive Today’s Special Value will be on offer from Tuesday. Very excited to see the four-piece Pro Collagen collection, with extraordinary value. My two most-replenished face creams, Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream and Pro Collagen Marine Cream, are both included. Can’t wait.

Tuesday’s big deal of the day is the Vitamix Explorian E320 blender – these are quite rare now so do take advantage when you see that price!

Plus I’ll be off to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Butler & Wilson jewellery, on Tuesday evening – very unusual for me to go out ha ha.

Wednesday – A superb Rose and Lychee three-piece hair collection from top brand Philip Kingsley, stock up while you can.

Thursday, my lovely friend Alison Cork returns with a classy Satin Velvet bedspread, so there will be lots of Christmas ideas all through the day and a bit of fashion in the evening as well! Alison’s last show is at 7pm, don’t miss it. Her range is amazing if you love very distinctive styles, go here to see it online and you will see what I mean.

Friday – the Marc Fisher Glila Knee High Boot is here at last – in wide choices too! Yayyy! I hope I get to try some! And 9pm, watch out for the Lakeland three-tier Heated Airer deal, a great way to get your clothes dry, especially if you have limited space and you don’t want to use the tumble dryer.

Dynamic Duo

Finally, watch out towards the end of next week for a new jewellery range going online ready for the big launch. On September 14th at 10pm we will have a new concept from our lovely Italian jewellery guest Letizia, it’s called Duo. It’s a customisable bangle where the two ends can be interchanged for other charms. The starter kit comes with a round cubic zirconia charm and an initial. In different finishes, and with different options to add extras, interchange or upgrade it, this looks really interesting. It will make a refreshing innovation for anyone looking for clever presents this season 🙂

Next week – a massive birthday weekend for one of my brothers as he turns 50, the Flints take over a big country house! Should be great fun. Plus a theatre trip, and the glamorous Butler & Wilson 50th anniversary bash. And another grandbaby update as I spend the night with little Blake who is nearly 21 months! Busy, busy!

Best wishes,

Debbie
