Baby Phoebe is one! And behind the scenes fun!

Coming up – behind the scenes fun. First… How time flies, right?! One whole year since my granddaughter Phoebe was born in Wales, and now 12 months later, we celebrated with a lovely afternoon tea at a superb bed and breakfast, remember the one with the hot tub?

Well, Phoebe did not get in the hot tub but she really enjoyed being made a fuss of, and ripping open lots of presents. She is just a fraction away from walking at the moment, she will do four steps then fall laughing into your arms, she’s at that adorable stage. Top pressies included a walk-along toy and a ball shape-sorter maze thing. She is very clever. Kate at Dol Llain Mansion in Llandysul in the south west coast of Wales laid on a lovely afternoon tea for the adults and some nibbles for the baby too.

Then we had time to go back to Lauren’s and take a walk in the rambling Welsh countryside, the weather held off so we were lucky and admired the wonderful views. My sis-in-law Alison, my mum, her partner David, Lauren and Nick (carrying baby Phoebe – she’s out of sight as they don’t want her to be a social media baby, as regulars will know) enjoyed a bracing walk. A good weekend was had by all, I just hope it’s not long before I see her again.

This weekend’s highlights:

Today, Friday 11th – Go here to see and buy the Cozee Home Velvetsoft jacquard braid filled bedspread, great for the colder weather that is on its way.

Saturday and Sunday – A two day Christmas event! Food, footwear, high-tech and diamonds, what more could we want? Well, how about the Today’s Special Value on Saturday with Lee Hohbein, the Amazon Echo bundle including a 5th generation Smart Display Echo Show, plus a 3rd generation Echo Dot, plus an Amazon smart plug, for an unbelievable price. Then on Sunday, Dyson are back, with a V6 cordless stick vacuum cleaner with a four-piece accessory kit. I will see you on Sunday night at 9 o’clock for the Christmas gift ideas show, looking forward to it.

Snippets

Curlers and cheesy grins

Charlie and I competed with Rachael the lovely make-up lady behind the scenes at QVC to see who could put the biggest smile on. Charlie is always good fun and is such a joker. While I looked like this, doing my best impression of Hilda Ogden, I said to him are you going home now? And he leaned provocatively up against the door frame with his hand above his head, and said “Why? Are you asking…?” He is so funny. It takes me about half an hour to get ready now that we have make-up artists, and it is a really luxurious treat to have someone help you and get everything right. I can do it myself double sharp-ish, but it’s better to have the experts do the eyeliner, and so on. This curling device is the Ego Hair Curling Pod, so fast and even though we stopped selling it a while ago mine is still going strong, I love it!

Daisy meets top author Julie Cohen

This is the moment when Daisy dog saw her old friend Julie Cohen down at my place in Devon. Julie was here to get some writing done for her latest book and is a very successful author, having been a Richard and Judy book club writer! Anyway, Julie is the reason I live in Devon. It was at one of her writing workshops that I first visited, and then when it came up for sale I was on the newsletter list, and the rest as they say is history. Julie’s books are absolutely brilliant, and I do recommend them if you want to get into the works of a prolific and talented author. Early books are more romance, some very sassy, but her more recent books have been real epic emotional dramas. I recommend ‘Dear Thing’, ‘Together’, and the latest one ‘Louis and Louise.’

All Daisy dog cared about though was getting her chicken treats and having lots of cuddles. Daisy is coping well without her lovely sister Gracie, and thanks to wonderful guests like Julie, she gets lots of attention. Daisy will look forward to Julie returning at the end of November when she is hosting another novel-writing retreat, I’m sure!

And sticking with books…

Book of the week

‘Platform 7’ by Louise Doughty. Oh my God, a psychological thriller that everyone is talking about. Julie mentioned it, my friend Janie Smith mentioned it on her blog, and I have downloaded it to Audible. Two deaths within 18 months, but are they connected. The heroine wants to find out… Because she was the first one to die. Oooo spooky! Looking forward to it.

Watch – Judy

Renée Zellweger is absolutely outstanding, what more can I say. The lady who stole our hearts as Bridget Jones excels as Judy Garland in the later part of her life. Utterly, utterly stunning, so well-made and a captivating performance. Highly recommended, 9 out of 10.

Pedro the parrot strikes again

Remember this parrot from last time? Well, he flew around various peoples shoulders and seemed to love my mother! Bless her, she flinched a bit but managed to sit still enough that Pedro the parrot sat on her shoulder for quite a while. The owner said that they’re not quite sure if it is a boy or a girl, it is almost impossible to tell apparently. And it doesn’t really matter, because what difference does it make, which seems to make sense! Hot tubs and parrots! What a B&B!

  1. Great Book recommendation; will search a certain online shop that sounds like a long south American river for it. BTW if you like biogs; I recommend a revealing life story of actor Christopher Eccleston. So self effacing.

  2. Great read as usual. You seem to have the best of both worlds Debbie. Good on you. Have a long way to catch up on you and your grandchildren. Our daughter had our first grandchild (daughter) last week after a very difficult birth. All doing well now though. Thanks for the heads up on upcoming shows. Looking forward to Lola Rose.
