Fun ‘n’ games backstage! And sneaky peeks of the week ahead

We had a very big QVC Christmas shopping day last week and this was a scene in the corridor afterwards (see the top picture). When I went to take a photo of it all being packed away, Alice and Chanel hid! So funny. Can you see their heads popping up behind the massive presents? Photo-bombed by two little QVC backstage pixies. 🙂 We have such fun with our friends behind the scenes. Look out for more Christmas fayre, there’s lots still online, and there will be another big day in September before the lead up to Christmas starts as usual on QVC in early October. We don’t do things by halves! Do you start shopping early? Or do you leave it ’til the last minute? I’m a bit of both.

Snippets

Big sister

My daughter Lauren posted this this week, with the caption “someone’s excited to be a big sister!” Little Phoebe keeps touching her mummy’s belly. She’s got a long time to wait, it’s not until January! It will be lovely for them. And me! And of course, this time next week, Brad and Kari hopefully will have brought their little boy into the world as my small dynasty expands! Very exciting.

Dad’s anniversary – family fun

The 15th August would’ve been my dad‘s 82nd birthday. My siblings and I, well most of them, met up with Mum for our annual lunch. We try to do it once a year but obviously missed out last year, so it was lovely to see everybody!

Funny!

Haven’t been looking at as much news and politics stuff in August, giving myself a break. So when I saw this, I chuckled!

Watch – The Courier at the cinema

Benedict Cumberbatch is a marvel. Whatever he is in, he fills the screen with watchability and intensity second to none. I went to see this after my afternoon tea this week, and it transported me back to the early 60s and the days of the Cold War, ingenuously. His characterisation is always fabulous, watch out for the footage at the end of the real salesman turned spy. Highly recommended and definitely an award contender I reckon!

I’m also probably going to see Free Guy with the nieces now Lara and Izzy are back from their long holiday abroad. Ziggy the dog did his pieces when he saw them, going completely cuckoo! He is so lovely.

Blooper

This was a funny moment, trust Ali!

Podcast

Just going to remind you to make sure you listen to Pipa’s podcast with Will, currently available. Really enjoyed finding out more about my lovely colleague and the tough life she had as a kid, including some real disabilities of hearing and movement early on. I was already aware of some of the troubles in her family growing up, and the fact that she has become such an amazing mum does her proud. It’s the 100th podcast and Pipa is celebrating 20 years at QVC so it’s a special one for that reason as well! And the new one is with June Poster, the brand ambassador for Frank Usher. You can listen to them all here!

Vlog

Check this out, recorded when we had our little get-together at the teahouse this week! And don’t forget to look at all of my social media on a regular basis to find out what’s going on behind the scenes! And my Thursday night live broadcast called #thursdayBantz !

Book of the week – The Great Circle

Having finished project Hail Mary, which was utterly fabulous, one of the best books I’ve listened to with one of the most amazing narrators ever, I have been really enjoying The Great Circle, by Maggie Shipstead. To my great surprise, only afterwards I found it was long-listed for the Booker Prize 2021! Unusual for me to go all literary, but I’ve really enjoyed this tale of a female aviator through the 20s and 30s, watching her growing up and surviving her tough childhood and awful marriage. Interwoven is the tale of the modern day actress who gets to play her in a movie. I love some of the clever turns of phrase from the author, particularly the metaphors she conjures up, and have really enjoyed the atmosphere of the early days of flying in America. Highly recommended! The only little blip is the fact that the narrator has an awful contorted English accent but fortunately, there are not that many English characters! I have yet to find an American who can do a good enough English accent on narrated Audible books! It’s got to be made into a film, it’s perfect for it, and I really hope it happens soon!

Our Julia’s latest thriller is out this week. The Woman on the Beach is Jules’s ninth book, she is very prolific! “Ever since we locked fingers and swore to be best friends at school, Sophie was there for me. When she married my brother, we became family. We laughed together and cried together. We never kept secrets from each other.

At least, that was what I thought… And then she was gone.”

But was that her on the beach that day, and if so, where did she disappear to? Another page turner from our colleague, and I’m really looking forward to it, I have downloaded the audiobook!

Plus, it’s paperback publication week for The Happy Family, featuring my other writer colleague Jackie Kabler’s latest bestseller! Wow, we are spoilt for choice. 🙂
