Summer returns, and super sneaky peeks for the week ahead

Summer returned with a vengeance this week, and I was more than happy to spend a few days off doing not a lot, just recovering from the hectic weekend! (See below for details of why). Sister Linda and I had a lovely meander or two through the Surrey countryside and soaked up some sunshine before it got too hot for me. Also spent time with Mum, see below. Plus this week, some Phoebe funnies, and an excellent SBC Skincare Today’s Special Value on Sunday, containing one of my favourites!

Roses with Richard’s plant food!

Helped Mum tidy up Dad’s grave in time for his birthday, and my goodness don’t the roses look lovely! She was very impressed as she had been using Richard Jackson’s famous Flower Power as usual, as well as his Plant Invigorator. Shop Richard’s range here, highly recommended. We then went and had a nice catch up with my “sister-in-law” pal Nicky, ex-wife of my brother Derek, following my niece Jodie’s wedding up in Gretna Green last weekend.

I had been looking after my brother as he was a bit poorly, but he made it to the wedding, so everyone was glad. He is so funny! For example. when someone said to him on one of the clips I watched, “well done for giving her away”, he said “I would rather have sold her,” ha ha! It was a tiny wedding with only a couple of dozen people, so I didn’t go, but loved seeing the pictures afterwards. 🙂

Lolly and family were there, so I got to see lots of videos of them and Phoebe. Mum spent a lot of time with her and had some right stories to tell!

Phoebe also was a hoot, for instance, when the chips arrived in a little mesh basket and she apparently said “the chips are in the cage so they can’t escape”, and also when a tall lady in an animal print dress (with a black hat which had two black decorations sticking up on the top of her head), went to turn the music down, Phoebe asked Lauren “what is the giraffe doing to the radio?” She thought the lady was like a giraffe! How funny. I miss her millions and won’t see her ’til Lauren comes down for her birthday at the start of September… unless I make a brief trip back to Wales in between… I may not be able to help myself. 🙂

Rachel and Ross reunited after Friends Reunion!

Oh my goodness, how exciting is this?! There are rumours that David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston are actually dating – in real life! – after rekindling feelings when they were at the recent Friends reunion special. Fans of the long-running classic series will know that the Ross and Rachel storyline was pivotal to the whole 10 seasons. So if they were to get together in real life, after all the ups and downs, especially in Jennifer‘s life, that would be fabulous! Watch this space. By the way, Jennifer Aniston is a big fan of getting a vaccine apparently, and I agree with her, I hope you have had your jab!

August jewellery

Got given some lovely jewellery for August, including this doggy paw Diamonique friendship bracelet. What a great present for somebody who has lost a pet over the rainbow bridge, or just loves their pooch! Lots more like this online here, including what’s left of my bee jewellery :-).

I had two massive jewellery shows recently. The first with Kieran and luxury gems, including £6000 worth of AAAA tanzanite in a gorgeous ring (go here to shop the range). Then amidst a very interesting shift last Sunday, I had Fire Light diamonds with Hannah, who gave us tons of really interesting info about these created real diamonds. Kieran is the same, as are our other wonderful jewellery guests. But there was a different reason I was very glad to be on with Hannah, who always has so much to say… it really helped me out, as I was having to do a massively long shift and the jewellery show was my 4th hour in a row, due to last minute sickness! Thank goodness Hannah can talk! I also did a 5th hour too, at 11 pm. So many people being pinged at work. Thank goodness we are all supporting each other through it.

The next day, I was a bit worried though, because I had a really sore throat and felt quite rough. Turns out it was only from doing so much talking, rather than anything more sinister, as a test soon proved. Fortunately, after two days off, I was fully recovered. Now I am back in London more and less in Devon, I am around a lot more to help out if extra shifts are needed, as you may have noticed…!! Apparently, I was the person that did the most hours last year, quelle surprise! Good job I love my job.

Watch

Well, I have had a bit of a bonanza lately! I went to the cinema and saw Still Water. It’s the latest Matt Damon movie and very unlike some of his other action roles, as he plays an ex-alcoholic Mid-Western hole-digger, who has to go and try and rescue his estranged daughter from a French prison where she is wrongly accused of murder. A great performance from the French actress who is in Call My Agent, which I have also started watching on Lauren’s recommendation recently as well, so there are the first two for you this week! Then, on Disney+, brother and I watched Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johannson. As far as Marvel movies are concerned, this one was comic genius, as well as having amazing action sequences and some heart wrenching moments. With the exception of Ray Winstone’s almost-passable Russian accent, it was faultless and highly recommended.

Podcast

Did you listen to Alison Young’s in-depth chat with Will, talking all about the QVC customer Beauty Excellence Awards that are currently open? Get your vote in by Sunday 15th, and the results will be on the big show on the 25th. It’s a really important time for many of our nominees and they wait with baited breath to see what you guys think. The Inside QVC podcast reaches the 100 episode milestone next week! To mark the occasion, Will caught up with our very own Pipa Gordon who is celebrating the personal milestone of 20 years as a QVC presenter! Well done Pipa! In September, it is 27 years since I joined QVC, but of course I had a break in the middle, so it’s a total of 18 years, Pipa has two years on me. 🙂 It will be a really interesting podcast so don’t miss it. You can listen to all the podcasts here.

SBC – Sunday deal!

One moisturiser that won’t be in the awards yet, because it is too new, is the SBC Skincare collagen moisturiser and serum set out this Sunday, which comes with my favourite shower gel – the pink collagen shower cream. It moisturises my skin so magnificently, I notice the difference when I use other products. Very happy to see the massive size included in this Sunday TSV, as well as the huge collagen body gel that you can rub all over your body, especially when your skin is dry, though you can also use it on your face and neck. Nancy Mason from SBC Skincare, our fab independent British brand trusted for over 30 years, has put together super-sized set to focus on hydration. There are some great results on the Hydra-Collagen Moisturiser for the face – every person in the trial noticed that their skin looked firmer, less lined, and more youthful-looking. Plus the Intensive Serum continues its great work as once more, all consumers in the trial noticed that their skin appeared firmer, smoother and it reduced the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. 192 out of 192 is pretty good. It’s really affordable, so isn’t it worth a try? Check out the set early because I think it’s going to be a belter. I’m back on on Sunday night after my long week off, but unless something changes, I’m not scheduled on with it and it might not even last that long!

Vlog

In case you missed it, here is last week’s #ThursdayBantz, unusually, on a Friday! I had been watching the film with my brother the night before and nearly forgot, so did a very brief one on Thursday and the full one on Friday… from our presenter lounge! Check out the look behind the scenes.

Book of the week

I’m loving ‘Project Hail Mary’ by Andy Weir, the guy who wrote The Martian (another excellent Matt Damon film, which I have downloaded ready to watch in extended play version!) It’s set in outer space again but is so well narrated, I’m enjoying every second of it. It’s an existential threat movie, with the hero on a one-man mission to find another planet and save the world, but really original and so much science in it, it satisfies my geeky brain! I think I’ve found another favourite narrator though, and will look out for more books read by Ray Porter. Over 8000 reviews and one of the most highly rated I’ve ever known! Check it out on Audible.

Next week – more time out on my days off with Mum, plus meeting my old school friends for dinner and a family lunch to celebrate Dad’s birthday, he would have been 82. Plus, news of a new two-in-one elliptical stepper from Echelon. I just recently took delivery of the exercise bike so I am very happy, even if I can’t get my daily walk, I can cycle to my heart’s content into the wee small hours #ANightOwl!! Lol.

Best wishes,

Debs
