Then there was a crash…!

You’ll never guess what I did last weekend, the night before we came back to Surrey from Devon. I’d been up in the loft rearranging things, including finally locating a lot of very ancient photographs (see below), just as I stepped across part of the insulation, I tripped, and… well you’ll have to watch the aftermath from this week’s vlog to find out more! This was #Thursdaybantz. Sorry for the break up a couple of times in signal, but you will get the picture if you watch all of it, 🙂 including a look round the 1600’s loft! Don’t forget to join me on Thursday night for my regular banter and catch up session on my Facebook page.

Well, when I’d recovered from that (and fortunately my neighbour and lovely friend Chris came and rescued me, as I had a guest coming on the Sunday, staying for a month!) we drove home and I unpacked yet another load of stuff. I seem to be forever sorting out bags and boxes! I still have six tubs of stuff to go through in my new flat!

This week, I’d intended to get on with my book, but my sore eye got in the way. (See below). But the aim is obviously (at time of writing), to carry on and pretend I’m on my writing holiday. As I mentioned, I should have been in lovely Bordeaux this week on the writing retreat getting my fifth novel done. Fingers crossed I manage to get at least a few days worth of writing under my belt.

In between times, I did manage to go for lots of lovely walks in Banstead Woods too. Sometimes with all the family, like in the top picture. But mainly with my sister. She is a very good influence. I’m already feeling healthier. 🙂 Long may it reign. Or rain – we walk in the woods whatever the weather! I do love my new home, and I’m starting as I mean to go on…

Snippets

Eye mask

Found a new use for one of these! Covering up my bad eye. Had a real big flare-up of ‘dry eye’ in my left eye this week and had to end up at Saint Helier hospital eye department! Just wouldn’t go away. Hopefully it’s gone by the time I come back on air this Sunday evening with Cozee Home!

Vintage pic

While going through the boxes of photographs, I happened upon this one. One of my favourites from when we were kids. Remember the days when they used to get the kids together for school pictures, all in the same shot? In the old days, for some kids, that was one of the only photos they had taken, or else they got taken to a photo studio with the parents, like my mum did when she was a toddler, and ended up with this one! Such a delight to find all these old ones in old albums that belonged to my Nan. Just shows what you can find in your loft if you look hard enough!

Spotlight Oral Care

I’ve been trying out some of the new oral care products from Spotlight, (click here to see the offerings) including a very clever floss, which I’ve loved using. They do a nice men’s kit as well, in case you need a present! Remember we are bringing you lots of innovative gift ideas, especially on our Saturday gift shows, so look out for them!

Watch – ‘Us’ – the BBC tv series of the David Nicholls book

A gentle, kitchen soap kind of drama in a continental setting as a divorcing couple go on a last-gasp bonding holiday with their reluctant son. The tensions intensify as he disappears and his father goes against the habits of a lifetime in his hunt to find him. Very satisfying developments. Catch it if you can. I found myself binge watching all four episodes as I tried to put together the last piece of furniture, my desk from IKEA, and put the top on the wrong way round… I was so engrossed! 🙂 I had to get help to put it right! Brother-in-law to the rescue, thank goodness we are now living in the same complex. 🙂

Book – The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett

The prequel of Pillars of the Earth is out! How excited was I?! I love this series of massive novels, with hours and hours of audiobook to enjoy. Can’t wait to get stuck into this one. It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages, and England faces attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Life is hard, and those with power wield it harshly. With the King’s grip on the country fragile, we follow three families through the decades that lead up to where the Pillars of the Earth begins. Fabulous!

  1. Debbie! I fell about laughing at your antics – it soo could be me!
I listened to Us as well and can imagine I wouldn’t have known what to concentrate on if I had been trying to put an Ikea desk together either! I could just picture you trying to write at your desk and then getting up and running round to the the other side when you needed something out of the drawer! Too funny! Thank goodness for the help in getting the error put right without any mishap, except to your pride!
Thank you for all your personal news and for the latest Q offers and goodies in the pipeline!

    All the best!

  7. Hi Debbie
Love watching you, so sorry about the loft, I bet it was one of those moments in slow motion where you know what’s going to happen but you just can’t stop it! That would be me as I.m accident prone. Hope you get it fixed soon. Your new flat and Banstead Woods look great.
Can I ask, was that a current Kim and Co top you wore for the Cozee Home TSV, at all, if you can remember ? A navy floral one ? Looks like it might have been. I like it but had a quick look through and couldn’t see one similar online. The details would be great if you could find them. Thank you, I have lots of Kim.s tops and tunics. It suited you and you looked very nice, my dear !
Take care with your busy life x

  8. hi Debs re the eye problem just to say i saw the consultant with mine . i have sjorgrens and he prescribed an eye gel to put in up to 6x a day . oh such relief gel not the drops. clinitas carbomer 0.2% eye gel .( Of course as a little piggie I can only think about Carbonara when I think about its title! ) It really soothes the annoying irritation.
