Easter ponies and new teeth!

Hello everyone,

I want to start with sending you my love in these difficult and challenging times. Each and every one of us faces this time with different stories and anxieties, so I want to be sensitive to that and if I can offer a just a few minutes of distraction, and perhaps a little light relief, from reading this blog then mission accomplished.

Let me begin with a Beau update. He is growing at a rate and now has teeth! Can you believe it? He is just shy of 7-months-old and now has his bottom two toothy-pegs through and we think that more are on the way this week. With this joyous occasion also comes quite a lot of fractious moments, as the poor wee lad tries to manage his world, which is changing by the second.

So, what does one do to try and occupy and distract a baby…? Any suggestions are welcome, by the way. I thought, how about create a play den outside and some sort of outside activity centre. I had grand ideas of swings, blow-up mattresses and big toys, until I stopped and realised that he is still only small and actually some hulking great set in the garden would probably terrify the poor boy. I opted for something a little more modest…

He loves it and so do we, as it acts as a little get a way from the house, should one feel the need for some space. Saying that, you can’t actually sit up straight in it, but you get the sentiment.

People have asked me what I do at the moment to keep busy during the recent time. My honest answer is Beau, as he is a very lively young fella and keeps me on my toes the whole day, but I’ve also taken to baking again and have found a great way to include Grandma (my mum) or Grummy, as we call her. I set up my phone on a tripod and we do a WhatsApp video chat, it’s free so we can chatter for as long as we want. We also do this after Beau’s dinner time as we read him a story while his dinner goes down before bath time. His favourite book at the moment is ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. It’s a lovely way for my mum to still feel involved and for us all to feel connected. I think Beau thinks Grummy lives in a tiny little box (the phone) though… ha ha.

My new favourite thing to bake at the moment is deliciously sweet chewy coconut and chocolate flapjack. I bake it in two trays that look like ponies and I’d say within about an hour of them cooling down, the legs and head have disappeared. As you can see its thirsty work watching mummy baking.

I may make these for Easter as a treat. I will also be working on Saturday 11th, if you fancy tuning in. We have tonnes of special Easter offers running throughout the weekend starting with our SHOP3Z voucher on Thursday 16th at 9pm until Monday 23:59pm.
