The view from the top!

Hello,

I’ve had a lovely weekend off since my last blog – my annual catch-up with two of my oldest friends. Dione, Gillian and I met in our first year at Trinity College, Dublin, where we were all doing various science degrees, and 35 years later we are still “besties”. We try to go to a different city every year for our weekend get-together but this time we decided to be tourists in London and it was brilliant! We started our Saturday morning by taking the cable car across the Thames (it runs between Royal Docks and Greenwich Peninsula and even on a misty morning the views were fabulous). Then the highlight of the day – we climbed the Millennium Dome (or the O2, as it’s now known of course)! It was so much fun – they give you all the gear, including climbing shoes and a safety harness, and off you go, with a guide to lead you safely to the summit. As a surprise Dione had booked a little extra for when we reached the top – a glass of champagne, which we drank while enjoying the views. It was SO MUCH FUN. Highly recommended if you enjoy a little challenge and aren’t too scared of heights! On Sunday we went to the Tower of London, somewhere I last visited many, many years ago. It has such an eerie atmosphere, and I found it utterly fascinating listening to our Beefeater guide telling us grisly stories from the Tower’s past.

Meanwhile at work the pre-Christmas bargains continue to impress. Two to look out for in the coming days are from Philosophy and Centigrade. Skincare and fragrance brand Philosophy brings us a Today’s Special Value offer on Friday 29th, but early birds can get in ahead of time and order HERE now. Perfect for gifting, the six-piece Luxurious Fragrance Layering Collection comes in a choice of Classic or Floral scents and with a saving of £48 on the usual price!

You get three eau de toilettes and three shampoo, bath and shower gels in each set; the Classic collection has all the “Graces” (Amazing Grace, Pure Grace and Baby Grace) while the Floral set includes the “Roses” (Ballet Rose and Nude Rose) with some Amazing Grace for good measure. Throw in three gift bags too and wow, what a buy!And on Saturday 30th, just as the weather is turning really chilly, Centigrade bring us a fabulous faux-down padded coat. Lots of colours to choose from (I love the Platinum and the Navy but there’s also Dusty Pink, Cranberry, Black and Emerald), and a snuggly faux fur trimmed hood make this a winner in my book.Happy shopping! I’ve finally started my Christmas shopping this week (what took me so long?!) – I’ll share some of my buys with you in my next blog.

Love Jackie x

  1. Hi Jackie,
That sounds like a great annual catch up! Your friends are as youthful as you! What did you study? Funny you’re not using your science at all now! I wonder if they are? Have a nice weekend. Hope you have Christmas off this year x

    1. Hi Susan,
Two of us (me included) did Zoology degrees and the other Genetics (she still works in science but in publishing). I worked as a zoologist for a couple of years but then retrained as a journalist. Funny how many people do degrees but then drift away from their chosen subject…I think I was far too young at 18 to know what I wanted to do with my life but it was interesting at the time! And yes Christmas off this year, hurray! I’ll be working through New Year though. Happy Christmas! Jx
