Very bad cooking and keeping in touch

Hi everyone,

And so another week has passed in this strange “new normal” world. So many people seem to be using their extra spare time to do more cooking and cake baking (I keep seeing photos of banana bread all over social media for some reason!). I am not – I am absolutely the worst cook in the world and, although I adore food, I have no real interest in creating it. And on that note, I was sorting through some old videos on my laptop the other day and came across this.

It’s about six years old, so from my early days at QVC, and it was around Christmas time when we had a kitchen sale show. Simon Brown, our lovely kitchen gadget expert, was around for the beginning and the end of the hour, but somebody had the marvellous idea that I could present the bulk of the hour by myself. ME, presenting a solo kitchen show! Needless to say it didn’t go very well, and this video shows a condensed five minutes from nearly an hour of torture for me. Fortunately, I’ve never had to do it again (you won’t be surprised to hear!).

Jackie presenting a cooking show

QVC presenter Jackie Kabler presents a kitchen show on her own and things don’t go according to plan.

Of course another thing lots of us are trying to do at the moment is keep in touch with friends and loved ones even though it’s impossible to see them in person. We have a Today’s Special Value offer coming up on Saturday 2nd May which might help – a fabulous combination of the Amazon Echo Show 8 (the number eight referring to the 8” display) and the latest Blink smart security camera.

The Echo Show is, of course, a fantastic way to organise your day, keep up with the news and entertainment, and connect you to friends and family with video calling, all in one sleek device. (If you’re one of the people who’s into cooking at the moment, you can even follow recipes on it!) You can watch films and video, connect to music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, and so much more, including linking to a security camera, which is where the Blink camera comes in.

This can be used inside or outside your home, has two-way audio so you can speak to visitors (you just need to download the Blink app for your phone or tablet), and has night vision and motion detection. You can watch what’s happening on camera with your Echo so they work really well together, and there’s no wiring or professional installation required so perfect for these tricky times.

And that’s all I have for you this week. Stay safe, stay well, stay positive… that’s all we can do really, isn’t it?

Love Jackie x

  1. Hi Jackie, I am a very regular QVC customer and have just read your latest book, “The Perfect Couple”, which I found completely by accident. OMG it is so well written and although it’s a step away from the books I normally go for, I just couldn’t put it down !! Have now started reading all of your books. Am completely addicted ! Looking forward to more of the same . Lots of love Claudia x

    1. Hi Claudia, I’m delighted, thank you so much! So kind of you to get in touch. Glad you enjoy QVC too! Take care.
