First of all, a belated happy New Year to you all. Did you all manage to get through the holiday season in tact? Like so many others, all my plans went awry. Initially, way back in the late summer, my mum and some of my family had planned to spend Christmas with me, as has become tradition over the last few years. I guess, looking back, it was wishful thinking on our parts, Covid was still rampaging so of course it couldn’t happen, even though they had booked their flights already!
Added to that, the decline in mum’s health and that she had been in and out of hospital multiple times in the last few months and the idea of them coming here was, frankly, a pipe dream. Instead, I booked my flights to go home to them. As you know, Tier 4 restrictions came the weekend before Christmas and Ireland closed its ports, so that meant I too would not be travelling. So I spent Christmas and New Year in London and not being with my family. I know I was not alone in suffering the consequence of that last minute change of plans, so for those of you who were in a similar boat, you have my sympathies!
Still, I managed to have my brother with me and the two of us spent a quiet Christmas Day together (all permitted under the rules). Thank goodness for modern technology, otherwise I’m not sure how any of us would be getting through this! We were able to be with our family in Ireland, in their living room as they opened their Christmas presents using a rather nifty device called Portal.
New Year’s Eve I was working, but got home in time to pour a glass of bubbles, head out onto my balcony and ring in 2021 with a bang and lots of fireworks. So not so bad at the end of the day.
Well, the new year started with a bang in more ways than one! Have you seen our Great QVC Giveaway with which we started the New Year? It’s the first time we have ever done anything like this and it’s already proved extremely popular in its first week!
All you have to do is make a purchase with us, then go to www.qvcwin.com and enter your Order Number (it must be a valid order number from a recent purchase), along with some other details like your postcode and house number. When you’ve done that, all you then have to do is give our virtual prize wheel a spin and you could land on one of a 1,000 fabulous prizes (I believe that in the first week, already people have won things like a diamond bracelet, Lola Rose Jewellery, a Lulu Guinness handbag etc). Best of all, whether you win on your spin or not, you are automatically entered into a grand prize draw for £10,000 – what a way to kickstart your year! All terms and conditions can be found on the website.
I’ve been at home so much recently I’m almost forgetting what outside looks like. I am only going outside to get in the car to drive to workout, to drive to the supermarket and back. That’s it!
One of the upsides is that I am managing to get more household chores done. (Normally it’s the middle of January before my Christmas decorations are taken down, or, if I do manage to get them down in time, they sit in boxes in the hallway for weeks before I get time to put them away!). Recently, however, I find myself getting cleaning and tidying up done much more easily because, let’s face it, I don’t really have anywhere to rush off to!
That said, one chore that still fills me with dread is the ironing! In this weather too, it is always tricky. Either it’s so wet that you can get things dried properly or you have everything hanging up in the central heating and it all turns to stiff cardboard that is really difficult to get the iron to smooth out. I’ll admit I am a bit particular about how my clothes look, so if I can’t get the creases in my shirts and trousers right it irks me, putting it politely! Lol.
If you are similar to me in liking your clothes to look well-pressed and laundered, or perhaps you just have so much laundry to get through that you just want it done quicker, then fear not, as we have a solution coming your way later this week from the great Morphy Richards in the form of a Todays Special Value because, let’s face it, life’s too short to waste it ironing!
Morphy Richards are bringing us a new Steam Generator Iron with a 1.6 litre capacity water tank that will allow you to power through large laundry loads without having to stop to fill up the tank!
Added to that, the 7-Bar pressure and the steam will really cut through your creases and have you getting the ironing finished in a fraction of the time. Plus, the built-in Intellitemp technology gives you intelligent ironing, meaning one temperature suits all fabrics and no burning!
You don’t even have to worry about those dreaded limescale deposits staining your clothes, as this iron has auto-clean technology and if you’ve ever worried that you’ve accidentally left the iron on before, no need to worry with this as it has and auto-off mechanism, meaning it will turn itself off if not in use.
One of my most dreaded household chores just got a whole lot easier!
Join me on Friday 15th January at 9pm for the pre-launch and if you can’t make Friday, check it out on air all day on Saturday 16th.
Until next time,
Miceal X

Happy New Year to you too! Just give your ironing to Ms. Kabler she loves it.
Hope 2021 is kinder to you ( and all of us).
