How ready are you for the big day? It’s fast approaching. To help make up your mind, I’ve selected a short list of last-minute gift ideas, which you will be able to find on the QVCUK.com homepage this weekend (I say “last-minute” but you can shop up until 8pm on Wednesday 21st December [UPDATE: due to current conditions, the last date for ordering in time for Christmas has been changed] 17th December and get the vast majority of items in time for Christmas)! Don’t forget, there are some real bargains among our Clearance offers as well. See what you can find 🙂

I’ve been asked to write the first little post since our presenter blogs went on a hiatus in early summer. Just to let you know, the occasional presenter blog will now return but in this format, rather than underneath individual headings, and I’m happy to say I’ve been asked to do the first one for you.

My weekly blog still continues, by the way, and has done all the way through the summer – all you need to do is search “Debbie Flint QVC blog” and you should find links to it on my social media!

For me, I’ve got most of my pressies sorted already, mainly because my two children, their four children, and their partners and I always celebrate our Christmas a little early.

Lauren came down from Wales with her beautiful boy and girl, and Brad hosted at his place in Fulham with his wonderful boy and girl 🙂 Regulars of my social media will know that the girls are now four, and the boys are either side of one. Precious times, right? We enjoyed some wonderful times including a walk in the local park.

Debbie and her family walking down a high street

Have had lots of other get-togethers with friends, including an afternoon tea with family, some December birthdays to celebrate as well – poor them! At least it’s not on Christmas Day like my colleague, Dale Franklin!

Debbie posing with fellow diners at a restaurant

Looking ahead to the new year, we were doing some very special filming behind-the-scenes with the production team recently – you will see the results when they are announced in the second week of January! It’s going to be an exciting year. This is what it looks like from my point of view. Hopefully you will love what you see when you view it from the other way round when the footage is released! Watch out for it.

In the meantime, my weekly blog still comes out on a Friday via my social media, and continues to include sneaky peeks at the next seven days on QVC!

Have fun and don’t forget to check out my last-minute gift picks on the QVCUK website this weekend.

What a lovely family day out I had, two days running, with my son and his family in Fulham. On the Friday I met him for a lovely lunch just round the corner from where he lives. It was really nice to spend time with just him, regulars with very long memories will remember my Bradley and mummy time outings from years ago, long before he was married. Really nice to catch up and have a one-to-one chat! Had a smashing lunch in the nearby pub.

Then I went and got his two little terrors from nursery. We went to the coffee shop where they both have got used to turning their faces away when I take a selfie of us all, since they are not social media babies, bless! Had a lovely time but I was really tired by now!

Then, the next day, I returned as it was time for the Parsons Green fair. And they had so many stalls and displays as well. Talk about lucky with the weather. After Blake and I went on the high up ride (see main photo), she had a go on the donkey ride, Brad took both of them on the little car roundabout, and we all, including Kari, set to watch the dancing displays in the main tent. It was a wonderful day, and little Kaleb did a bit of dancing to the music himself. So sweet! Got to make the most of days like this; even though I was really tired I forced myself to go. And I’m glad I did 🙂

Blowing Raspberries

On my flying trip to Devon on Tuesday for an evening meeting with my association executive, was followed up by a little bit of raspberry picking in the morning after. It had to be done! The bushes in the back garden are really prolific this year! It’s a joy to behold. Because I haven’t been there as much, I haven’t managed to keep away the greeblies from eating the lilies: about half of them have been munched, which is a real shame. But it’s a great year for wallflowers, don’t you think? Anyway I took this little container of raspberries to Wales and Phoebe loved them! She was well happy and had eaten about half of them by the time I took this picture! The little back garden plants are coming on well, and I took great delight in spending an evening and a very early morning with my grandkids and daughter and son-in-law, before driving back home to Surrey and an evening meeting with fellow residents/directors at my flats in Banstead! I collapsed into bed that night I can tell you!

Jasper Agog

Little grandson Jasper, he’s growing so quickly. Well they do at five months, don’t they? He just lays there looking deep into your eyes in wonder as if he’s trying to read your mind, so lovely. I played with him quite a lot when I went to Wales, even though it was a fleeting visit. Then just before his bedtime, he decided he was very interested in the television! Some Netflix thing with Melissa McCarthy that my daughter was watching. And he properly sat there watching it (bless him!) before he was whisked away for a feed and bed. I remember my lovely Daisy dog used to sit watching the television with me as well, whereas Gracie just didn’t even seem to realise there were pictures on the screen. I have just read Phoebe her bedtime stories too. She’s very much into the Tom Fletcher books at the moment and I’ve just ordered ‘There’s an elf in my book’! Had a lovely time with my babies. not long and I will be seeing them again on the weekend at the wedding!

Meet Ruth!

Thought I would give you a quick heads up that Ruth Langsford and QVC are getting together for a very special event! Details on this poster. If you remember our beauty bash events, I’m sure it will be along those lines and will feature some very famous faces as well from Ruth‘s TV world. It’s at the end of July so apply soon!

Watch

The Lincoln Lawyer, on Netflix, the TV series based on Michael Connelly‘s books. Yes, it was made into a film with Matthew McConaughey once, but I think this looks a much better option. I have loved his tales featuring these characters and I will definitely be looking this one up! To be honest there’s so much choice at the moment on the telly I don’t know where to start. Of course I was glued to all the developments mid-week when the political shenanigans were going on, and when I’m away I will definitely get back into watching something nightly. It will probably be this. Or Stranger Things, I keep hearing so much about it! Have you watched it? Why is it so popular?

Blooper

Proper one! Go here to see what happened during one of my shows with one of our fab new behind-the-scenes people – getting used to what the on-air camera-light meant. Bless her!

Vlog

Next week he’ll be talking to a familiar face in writer, presenter and journalist, Jackie Kabler. Jackie will be telling Will all about Menopause Your Way, an exciting initiative at QVC. You can listen to all the Inside Q podcasts here.

Book

One of the best books I have read all year! ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ by Bonnie Garmus. Bookshop tweeted asking what was your top book of the year, and this one got mentioned by so many responses I thought I’d get it. I’m so glad I did! You will absolutely love it. If you take one recommendation for me this year, make it this one. A feisty woman chemist who becomes a TV star in the 60s when women weren’t supposed to have an opinion, features a clever kid and a wise dog amongst others too. Absolutely loved every minute. Highly highly recommended!

Firstly if you’re reading this in time, Jackie has a 4pm show called menopause your way launching on Friday 1st of July (today). See below for more info!

This week I had a lovely two days in London with one of my old friends from my writing group, Carolyn Mahony, who writes some fabulous domestic thrillers. We had not been for two years, and the show brings together some experts in book writing, editing, marketing, cover designing, and more. I really enjoyed hearing the stories of the people who had developed their careers so well by self publishing their own books, that they were on over 50 grand a year and, some of them, more than that. It was on the Southbank and we stayed in a local hotel, so it was a very immersive experience.

It was a lovely day both days, give or take a few showers, but outside on the terrace by Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, there was this fountain display, one of those where the jets keep shooting up at different times! Cooled us down no end with the spray in the air.

Met one of the stars of the publishing industry, a lady called Joanna Penn, who remembered me from a very early seminar I went to years ago. There was an evening get-together/indoor party that spilled onto the terrace, and it was a beautiful evening. She is an absolute font of knowledge and her website, ‘the creative penn,’ has masses and masses of information and resources, podcasts and everything. One of the things she said during her lecture is that there is AI coming which will automatically narrate your novel, or help create your cover, or convert your books into a different language, or help to fill in sentences, as well as the obvious things like AutoCorrect.

There were also sessions on self editing, social media, and several people talking about their own method of increasing their sales to tens of thousands per day (yes, really! You don’t have to be with a big publisher necessarily). One of the most interesting was five secrets of successful authors. It included, “have a powerful premise you can describe in one sentence.” If you want to find out what mine is for my story I’m working on, go and have a look at my #Thursdaybantz on my Facebook page this week, where I told everybody all about it!

Exciting  times to be in the publishing industry and I enjoyed every minute! Certainly putting me in the mood for writing, considering I’m going away for nearly a month this summer, with the aim of finishing my fifth book. French or Dutch will definitely be completed this summer… If it kills me!

Snippets

Ice Cream

I thought I would include this one as it made me smile. It’s been a long time since I had an ice cream from an ice cream van and there was one, parked up on the Southbank, and my friend Carolyn could not resist it. How much it was? Do you have memories of the ice cream man during the summer driving round the local roads? Was it Popeye’s tune that was played? Or does anything else bring to mind? If you remember a specific tune, do put it in a comment to me, below. And, talking of nostalgia, when I moved up north when I left university, I was amazed to find that the ice cream vans also sold chocolate bars. They never used to, down south!

Lights

After the party we walked back to the nearby hotel along the Southbank where the London Eye is and look at these beautiful lights! Couldn’t resist posing for this colourful picture! Do you like my Kim & Co pink cardigan? I wear these all the time. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made! I hope she brings more back in the future. Here’s our Kim & Co range meanwhile and here’s where to find our garden lights to create your own version!

World in her hands

I also had a busy afternoon on Monday, when I went to my old university, London School of Economics, to renew my library ticket and book a time to go and see some 1920s newsletters which are stored in the women’s library there, that will help my research, since my book is based in that era. I went with my lovely friend Gill and we had the most amazing lunch, and a wonderful catch up. she thought she would pose with one of the features nearby, and I posed with another – see blooper/funny below! It was nice to do something for myself this week, given I’ve spent most of my spare time watering and looking after my mum’s plants, my dad’s grave, and the 94-year-old!

Strawberries n Cake

Week two of looking out for my mum and her partner’s 94-year-old friend, and I delivered some fresh British strawberries, a little takeaway of fish and chips, and some strawberry cake along with the latest supplies. I turned on the telly because he had turned it off again, or it had turned itself off, and found some nice tennis to watch together – the Nadal match on Thursday. Then, after the chips, we had a cup of tea, a slice of delicious cake and a couple of strawberries. Rain stopped play and it poured down outside and I told him all about my time working in the competitors restaurant at Wimbledon tennis and that one of my family was a ball boy on Centre Court probably in 1982.  He enjoyed the company I think, bless him.

Watch

Well I went to the cinema, and I saw Elvis. What a film. Two hours and 40 minutes long, yes really! But a superb bio pic. Austin Butler is an absolute star in the making, he smoulders on the screen and captures a young Elvis perfectly. Tom Hanks is basically Tom Hanks with a funny accent but he never disappoints me. Absolutely loved it, learnt a lot about poor Elvis and the way he was trapped into a life he would not have chosen that for the coercive control of his manager. Such a shame. What a legend. And great music obviously as well. I remember where I was on the day he died, and people could not believe it. There was a real rock ‘n’ roll revival happening at the time as well, in 1977. It would not surprise me if another one happens now given the popularity of this film. Should win awards for definite. Watch out for this actor in the future he’s going to be huge. I will definitely watch it again at some stage – nine out of 10.

Blooper/funny

Just a little funny for you. Apparently these elephant figurines are scattered throughout London, in different sizes. This one was just outside my old uni. thought I would get Gill to take a picture of me and the little one – mind you, I’m not sure who she thought was the biggest dumbo!

Podcast

This week, Will talked to the founder and CEO of Sea Magik, Kate Bunyan, about the history of spas, their product formulations, and about working with her family! Next week he’ll be chatting to Margot Grant Witz, third generation family member of beauty brand Elizabeth Grant. Margot tells Will all about her grandmother’s story as well as what we can expect to see from this exciting skincare range in the near future. You can listen to all the Inside Q podcasts here.

Vlog

Well, here’s a thing. I’ve started doing TikTok. Fortunately it automatically loads to my Instagram, which downloads it to Facebook. It was one of my early attempts, I thought I’d give the special effects a go! LOL.

https://fb.watch/d_3x5qWzSM/

I’m determined to get the hang of it and we’ll be doing at least one every single day when I’m away, charting my progress at the health retreat for a month, beginning on 12th July. Find me on TikTok under debbieflintTV

Book

I hate to say it but I am just romping through the Elly Griffiths books. I am currently on book number 5, The Dying Fall. Really loved book 4. Not sure about the new narrator in this one though. I will see how I get on.

And since I went to the self publishing event, how about trying something by Lucy Score? Being self published nowadays just means having more control, as most people are using professional editors and cover designers and marketing campaigns. Lucy self publishes, and one of her books, Things We Never Got Over, regularly hits the top of the charts, and has over 42,000 reviews! See what you think of it! I’ve downloaded it and it’s next on my list 🙂

QVC top deals for the next seven days

Friday (today) – go here to see and buy what’s left of a superb supplements offer, the Imedeen Prime Renewal 50+, four months supply! Assuming it’s still available! Continuing the menopause theme, if you’re finding your face and your collagen is really suffering, maybe worth looking at this demonstration! Emma is such a knowledgeable guest and if you look it up on line you will see some amazing stories about people using it! I definitely noticed a difference when I first started taking it seven years or so ago. Consistency is key though, so four months is fabulous.

Saturday – already online, go here to see the L’Occitane five-piece Almond Benefits collection. It’s all about the famous almond shower oil, hand cream, a gorgeous scrub, and more. Don’t miss out it’s going to be busy and join me Friday at 9pm and midnight for the launch!

Join me at 9pm Saturday for the launch of…

Sunday –…the Blink video doorbell system with sync module and mini camera is here. Oh my goodness, I cannot believe the price of this, Lee Hohbein will be telling us all about it and he’s done some previews on his social media so do go and have a look. Specialising in very very low outlay, too, to see your video clips the doorbell has detected, afterwards (which is a great offer compared to some places) this is sure to fly! I’ve seen the price! Security, peace of mind, a window on the outside without having to open the door, and it’s a doorbell! So don’t miss out!

From Lee:

“After its UK launch only last month this weekend we are finally seeing the incredible Blink Doorbell (full system version) TSV on QVC which will also come with a Blink Mini camera (that also acts as the chime for the doorbell).

The lowest price smart doorbell we’ve EVER seen, no ongoing fees and Blink’s propriety 2 year battery life (with the lithium batteries included) all at a knock-out price.

Put 9pm this Saturday 2nd July in your diary for the pre launch and join Debbie flint and I if you can. The last Blink TSV sold out by lunchtime and we’re expecting the same again. You will NOT want to miss this 😀

Great idea to get the auto delivery… I would! If I didn’t have a cupboard full, (I can’t do without it.) Once a day sun protection, what’s not to like?

Tuesday – PUR feather by Northern Nights ultimate comfort extra deep feather bed. Another great price, with a hyper clean feather filling that means it’s better for allergy-prone people, it is a rare category to appear as a Today’s Special Value so snap it up.

WednesdayKuhn Rikon bring us a set of two, three-in-one shears. So handy.

Thursday – candles time this time with Harry Slatkin’s Homeworx set of three home sanctuary three-wick candles – fab fragrances, always very ornate and great to use as containers afterwards, best price, a today’s special value, so stock up!

Friday – time to beautify your garden with Kelly Hoppen – or keep it indoors – it’s a large indoor/outdoor Buddha statue, always very popular!

And in case you missed the launch on the first, join Jackie at 4pm just before Julia‘s regular Fashion on Friday, for a new show. Jackie is going to be talking all about products that help you during the menopause, weekly from now on. And there’s a massive page all about it online with some brilliant videos and our own stories about going through the menopause. Personally I have become a different woman since taking HRT patches. Thank you, Davina! Am sleeping better due to fewer hot flushes. We have lots of products that will help as well, a Dyson fan AM07, for instance. Possibly a sleep spray like those from This Works. Or our supplements targeting women over 50. Do check out our page online here.

And join me at 9pm when I launch…

Friday 9pm …the latest offer from Dyson – the V8 animal cordless vacuum, I’ve seen the price and it’s amazing if you want a second vac or an upstairs one, or one that works better than your handheld.

I’m going to a wedding that weekend, so I’m off, but don’t miss out on the Liz Earle Smooth and Firm four-piece SuperSkin collection, going on sale mid-week! Caroline will be gagging to show you it and there will be several big shows throughout the day on Sunday as well.

Think of me I will be seeing the kids that weekend, and also Going to Chloe, my niece’s, wedding on the Sunday 10th!

Next week – all the above, lunch with my son, a Saturday lunch trip for a special kids’ event with Brad‘s offspring, and a trip to Devon and Wales, no grass growing under my feet! LOL

Best wishes

It’s many years since I went on a hen weekend! My niece Chloe is getting married in July, and it was a pleasure to go to visit mad dogs and vintage vans in Gloucestershire, surrounded by quirky little caravans (although fortunately we were in a separate barn conversion!)

The first day was over 30° outside! So, perfectly balmy for an evening around the campfire! There were lots of games, quizzes, lovely meals, courtesy of the venue, and entertainment – including a life drawing class! I won a prize for this one!

I did a Vlog whilst I was there, on day two when we all dressed up in camouflage gear, and had team games galore including egg and spoon, sat Grace, three legged race et cetera!

Mum who is 80 next year joined in. And what did she look like? Before you see the picture below, why don’t you have a little think about what you can picture her looking like? Well, I bet you didn’t picture this…miniskirt and everything! She is a one off!

It was an absolutely full-on weekend but I loved spending time with my gorgeous daughter and family and seeing them all enjoy themselves so much. So different for mothers like Lolly who are breastfeeding and are used to being stay-at-home mummies : Devon niece Jodie too, who was also in attendance, as she is Chloe’s sister. Their mum Nicky did everyone proud, as did the other super organisers Farnoush, Fay and the bridesmaid and in-law posse! I’m off for the wedding weekend as well as Lauren is bringing the babies down – can’t wait to see them! It will be six weeks, which is just too long. Eventually, when my Devon place is sold, I aim to spend more time in Wales seeing them grow up.

Roses grow on you…

On one of the hot days this week, I went back to water the plants we put in recently at my dad’s grave and just look how the roses have come on! Amazing how beautiful they are. I took a few back to put in a vase. Bootiful!!

Keith’s turtle mug

Many of you will know that I regularly do a Facebook live every Thursday evening on my page, (#thursdaybantz) and one of the regulars is called Keith Parker who runs Turtle Paradise rehoming service on the south coast, rescuing turtles on a regular basis. Well, his friend hand-painted a mug and it arrived through the post at QVC courtesy of kind Keith. We love hearing his news every week about the latest additions and some of the videos on his Facebook page are fascinating! My pens are now pride of place in the mug, on my dressing table!

Caring carers

On a different note, I helped mum and her partner out this week because their friend Dennis needed a little caring. Usually mum and David go there every day, in his place near Box Hill, but I stepped in to help. I took my Bissell handheld carpet cleaner, remember those? Did some stain removal. Did a bit of weeding in the garden, and made sure he was okay. When I left I set out some cheese and ham sandwiches ready for the meals in between the carers’ four visits. It really is a sobering experience, bless his heart. He is 94. Would be lovely to reach that age for all of us, wouldn’t it? What a life he has led and the changes he has seen. I am also on watering duty on my mum’s balcony, even more populated by plants than mine! I will have my work cut out for the next week until they come back that’s for sure! good job I enjoy it 🙂 .

Watch

The Staircase. Well it’s Colin Firth and Toni Collette so what’s not to like! Based on a true story (there’s a documentary about it on Netflix), what really happened the night the wife fell down the stairs? Who was really to blame? Colin Firth is just such an amazing actor and excels in this docudrama, as a famous American author and ex-marine with dark secrets, hauled through the public eye during his trial. Catch if you can!

Meanwhile, I can’t wait to see Elvis at the cinema!

Blooper

You’ve got to check out Miceal’s ‘birthday dance’ video on his Instagram this week! Hilarious!

Podcast

This week, Will caught up with beauty expert Alison Young to find out more about QVC’s June Beauty month celebrations. Next week he’ll be speaking to the founder and CEO of Sea Magik, Kate Bunyan, about the history of spas, their product formulations, and about working with family! You can listen to all the Inside Q podcasts here.

Book

Well, I have been rattling through the Ruth Galloway series, by Elly Griffiths! I’m now on book four! It’s a great romp – along the lines of an Agatha Christie, if truth be known – except with a modern day twist, but always with a historical foundation (obviously, because Ruth is an archaeologist!) There are 15 or more of these novels, so I promise not to bore you every week with them, but so far I am loving spending time with the characters. I’ve just finished ‘The House at Sea’s End’, and I’m now on ‘A Roomful of Bones’. All based in Norfolk, with some recurring themes (including a few political snipes I overlook!), the development of the characters’ relationships is really promising:  an illegitimate love child , great subsidiary characters and dynamic new subplots with every book. I don’t want to give too much away because there’s still time to go back and start at book one if you want!

I had a chat with three lovely customers on a Zoom meeting this week (okay, it was Teams but it’s like Zoom), and one of them said that each week she likes to see what I’m reading via my blog – although she told me some of them are highbrow! I was shocked – and complimented –  in the same measure! Vast majority of my recommendations are definitely not literary fiction or anything, although I do have a few non-fiction thrown in every now and then :-). Mostly I just lap up commercial fiction, crime fiction, ChickLit, fantasy, and romance! What do you read most of?

Meanwhile, I have just bought an audiobook, the latest from C.L.Taylor, called ‘The Guilty Couple’. I do like her books very much and she used to visit us at Retreats For You in Devon! She is a very talented writer! Looking forward to getting stuck into it at some point soon. They are usually standalone books rather than being written in consecutive tales, so if you don’t want to start one that is part of a series, try this one!

Had a super Plants2gardens show last weekend, and since I love my gardening so much I thought I would feature it this week instead of making it a short section lower down. Firstly, I must say how impressed I was with some of the offerings. There are quite a few on good reductions at the moment, do go and have a look here on our website. I liked the look of the vinca, which is a good ground cover, and also their herb collection with tri-planter. Loads of other offers too, though, so do go and have a look.

When I got down to Devon at the start of the week for another retreat, my lawn looked immaculate, but Chris, my mate who helps me, is not so hot on the weeding. So I had a really lovely time pulling up the weeds amongst other things. I would just spend hours and hours in the garden if I had the chance. But I mustn’t plan anything else new in Devon just in case I end up selling.

While I was there I did a little Vlog – See below –  and also check out my social media for what else I have been doing in the gardens! I’ve just ordered Plants2gardens tulip gudoshnik Bulbs, 20 of them that will arrive in September. I’ll probably put them in the flower beds on the bend in the flats in Surrey. Although the soil is rubbish hopefully they will last years, and they look gorgeous!

Happy BD Sheila & Sheena!

Whilst in Devon I met up with my lovely friends, it was Sheila from Holsworthy‘s birthday on Tuesday (you can always spot the QVC products that she wears!). And my lovely mate Sheena, sitting next to me in the black, has her birthday this Saturday! We had a good old chinwag including about the old days and some unusual aspects of our first jobs. Shirley also came, and she told us she used to be a telephone exchange operator in the 1950s. Actually connecting those cables! Sometimes she was tempted to listen in… I said when I was a student I worked in an accountants as a clerk. I used to add things up with an adding machine which produced till roll showing your calculations, so you could check them against what you had written by hand on green analysis paper! Long before computers! We had a right old laugh. I love connecting with my Devon friends when I’m down there. I’ll have a big gap in the summer though when I go to Somerset although I will be able to take day trips at least once or twice during the month that I’m away! That’ll do.

Jen n Me

I found someone who has never been to IKEA! My lovely friend Jennie, the yoga lady down in Devon, came with me when I went to replenish a few supplies for the retreat, and also to have a day trip with my lovely friend.

She was overjoyed and walked around like a little kid. I said I’ve been going to IKEA for so long, when we first used to go Bradley was a little boy and used to go in the ball pool and he is now 35!  We had a lovely catch up, a lunch, and got a few bargains in the process. My ideal day, ha ha! A lovely lady called Dee from Sidmouth also came up and said hello while we were queuing in the restaurant, always nice to say hello to people when we are out and about!

New Gatineau launch

Really loving essences at the moment, kind of like an extra hydrating stage that you can put on before moisturiser, or during the day. And Gatineau bring us their new one this Sunday in the new Age Benefit Today’s Special Value (see below for more details). Launching EXCLUSIVELY, Collagene Expert Hydra Essence! It’s a collagen boosting essence for instant and long lasting hydration, to plump and balance – such a fabulous product for those with dry skin.

Watch

‘Grace’, series 2. John Simm has been a favourite of mine since ‘Life On Mars’ (one of my most favourite series of all time, concerning a supposedly time-travelling copper who goes back to the 1970s!) and the follow-up ‘Ashes to Ashes’ was equally as good but in a different way. Watch those if you can! Well he has been cast as one of Peter James’s heroes, Detective Grace. This is series 2. It’s very good, although signs of it being a bit worthy do crop up, a bit PC if you know what I mean – in more ways than one, ha ha. He is off solving murders but not solving his troubled private life. Always convincing and a great great actor, well worth a watch.

Blooper/Funny

Considering I just had a week surrounded by bookish people, I thought I’d mention a joke I saw. I can’t show you the cartoon but imagine a great big T-Rex type dinosaur, chasing after cavemen. The dinosaur says, “your ineptness is disadvantageous. I propound you all to vamoose with great importunity.”

Lead caveman says, “it’s okay, guys, it’s only a thesaurus…” LOL! There you go, bringing the book world and my current novel recommendation about the archaeologist, both together. This isn’t just thrown together you know, ha ha. 🙂

Podcast

This week, Will’s been celebrating Pride Month with Craig Rowe and Michael Perry and finding out about their experiences and what Pride means to them. Next week he’ll be catching up with beauty expert Alison Young to find out more about what’s coming up in QVC’s June Beauty month. You can listen to all the Inside Q podcasts here.

Vlog

Took a little evening stroll around the village, such beautiful sunsets when the sun has been out all day, and so peaceful except when cars come by! Watch it here on my Facebook, and check out a couple of posts later where you will see the weekly #Thursdaybantz chat, which I do live every Thursday night! Follow my social media below to find out more.

Book of the Week

‘The Crossing Places’ by Elly Griffiths. I have found a new crush! The series about a character who is an archaeologist! Perfect for me! She even has a cat called Flint. Ruth Galloway lectures at North Norfolk University and lives on the salt marsh, intrinsically connected with Iron Age Britain. Bones are always being found but are they ancient or modern! When a child s bones are found on a desolate beach nearby, Detective Chief Inspector Harry Nelson calls Galloway for help.

I have loved this book particularly because it took some surprising turns that are definitely not run-of-the-mill, meaning I didn’t predict them. I love it when that happens! Now I’m going to get the next one, there are several in the series and I’m delighted!

QVC top deals for the next seven days

Friday (today) – go here to see and buy what’s left of The Bell & Howell 300 lumens bionic floodlight with remote control. Looks really good. I will be on the lookout, as it may mean no wiring!! Great price as well.

SaturdayShark are back with a corded stick vacuum cleaner with anti hair wrap and flexology this time and six Easy Pay payments.

Sunday – A fabulous today’s special value from Gatineau – the Age Benefit Regenerating Collection including something new from Collagene Expert – looks very interesting! And, by the way, I am back from my week away, first hour is the 11pm with Gary Cockerel’s make-up! I’ve not been on with him before so I’m looking forward to it. And my midnight features a very interesting beauty device, see below.

Now back to the Today’s Special Values for the rest of the week:

Monday – if you have missed the technology behind micro needling, then Oliviere Wilson has a super new one for you, to refine, rejuvenate and renew your skin in a very unusual way. It’s all the rage – go and Google it in the meantime. Looking forward to bringing you this one at midnight on Sunday. Through Monday whilst stocks last. Also Monday night I have a Mally Beauty at 10pm and Diamonds at 11pm: join me!

Tuesday – the Innovators Hanoi swivel cocoon chair is here, just in time for summer!

Wednesday – Going on sale earlier in the week, it’s the Perricone five-piece summer collection. I’m on QVC Style that day and will also be doing a ‘Meet Debbie Flint’ QVC online Q&A special – a bit like my #Thursdaybantz, but all QVC customers! Look out on my social media for details of how to join.

Thursday – some lovely jersey Harem trousers from Kim & Co.

Whilst I was away one of the ladies in my writing retreat group, said to me that she absolutely loves Kim & Co, and her sister swears by it! Quite unusual to have one of the guests know all about QVC, so we had a right old chat. It was nice to talk to Carol.

Friday – if you love Julien Macdonald lotus flowers, watch out for this set of two tall candleholders featuring his famous icon! Bound to be popular. And also at 9pm I will be launching…

Friday 9pm – …the latest Sealy mattress. It’s the response gel and memory sense deep pillow top mattress and goes on sale earlier in the week, look out for it! When I go down to Devon my main mattress on the bed where I sleep when no guests are here, is a top-of-the-range Sealy and I never cease to be amazed how different it feels: even better than the Sealy I sleep on in Surrey. Very interested to find out more about this new one. More next week.

Next week – A raucous hen weekend for my niece Chloe, with a combat and assault course theme… Oh goody! Especially because it looks like it will be pouring down with rain on the Saturday when we are all supposed to be doing most of the events! It will be fun though, going with mum, sister, daughter and sister-in-laws and nieces. Fun!

Best wishes,

Debs

It was time this week to do my duty and go and tend dad’s grave with mum. We really make an outing of it and it’s lovely to spend time with her. She does make me laugh with some of the things she says and does. There are three lovely rosebushes, fully established now, and mum loves roses, as did her father. My granddad was a keen gardener, and is buried right next door to dad, along with my Nan. So there’s a high bar, to make it all look nice! It’s so lovely to get it up to scratch again, although the Morden graveyard on the whole needed a bit of attention, they’re short-staffed apparently, but at least we strimmed around our bit!

Grave flowers

No Description

I decided for fun and colour, that I would buy some of those little springy insect ornaments, bright and mobile – some with windmills, a frog, a bee and more. I left one on my granddad‘s grave – regulars know the bee is important to me (see my Diamonique bee jewellery here). But there was another reason I bought them….

I sent this picture to my son and daughter – saying “guess where these are going!” Just to tease them – I knew what the answer would be! Brad said “not in our garden I hope!”, And Lauren said “okay well maybe one…” My son is such spoilsport, so I do like to wind him up … just a little bit! My granddad and especially mydad, we are real practical jokers so Brad gets off lightly!

In the end, I put the rest out on my balcony. A good time was had by all 🙂  You have to have fun, don’t you – and mum certainly did, holding them out of the window as we drove out of the car park and giggling away to herself as the windmills span around! Never grow up mother, never grow up! #LikeMotherLikeDaughter

Bek helps out

My lovely niece Becky made the trip with me on day two of our gardening efforts, and we had a really lovely catch up as we completed the rest of the grave flowers. Even one of mum’s old partners’ plots got the Beki treatment – we put Cosmos and herbs on this one! Mum does her best to keep her eye on it and she was delighted with what we had done. We had a repeat visit to the local garden centre cafe, too. Whilst there, we talked about the effect of what we eat on our physiology. She is doing lots of reading about it at the moment, for health reasons, and I have been doing so for years. There’s so much out there now – one day everyone will know that much of your body’s functioning is based on gut health, for instance. Bek is doing a juice thing at the moment and, of course, it’s only a month until I go away on my long health retreat in Somerset! Can’t wait – including to see the effect it has on my body and on me!

Little Kaleb is standing!

Had to really use discipline to keep my hands off the Smarties this week, tho! Had an exhausting afternoon, after picking up Blake, 4, and little Kaleb, 9 months,  from nursery for the first time together! He is settling in nicely. We had a lovely time at the park, and I showed him the frog Windmill garden ornament I bought at the garden centre with mum and he loved watching the wind blow it round. He stands on his own now but it won’t be long before he’s walking, I’m sure! Blake and I did some weeding out in the garden, she learnt how to pull out the weeds from the roots. I love my time with my grandbabies. And I got a nice cup of tea and a catch up with Brad and Kari, to boot!

Swan coffee

This is one of the most clever coffee decorations I’ve ever seen! It was from the Blue Diamond garden centre cafe in Lower Morden Lane, my old stomping ground when I was growing up, and now somewhere I go regularly when it’s time to get dad’s grave flowers sorted! A nice guy called Frankie came up to me with his friend to say hello; he said his wife loves QVC and it was a pleasure to say ‘yes’ to a selfie!

Watch

Loving ‘Gaslit’ on prime. Such a stellar array of stars including Hollywood’s Julia Roberts in this dramatisation of the facts behind Watergate from a side not yet told – the people who bugs that brought Nixon down in the early 70s in America. Julia plays the wife of a key figure (Sean Penn) mixed up in the scandal. Really fabulous period piece, and utterly gripping. Amazing performances as well. Check it out!

Blooper/Funny

There were several over the weekend, if you were lucky enough to see some of our half-past-teases during the Jubilee weekend. But this summed up my enjoyment of the weekend – that and Paddington with the Queen. Well done fellow presenter Simon Biagi! Hilarious 🙂 good on you ! #insta

Book – Jackie Kabler Chat

“The Murder List” is my lovely fellow presenter Jackie’s seventh novel, currently riding high in the Amazon charts. I caught up with her this week having read it – it’s fantastic! And highly recommended by me, and loads of other five-star reviewers. So I thought it was time for a quick Q&A to find out more! See below in the last section of this blog for more intriguing insights into Jackie success as an author! And don’t forget to try the book if you’re looking for a new crime novel!

QVC top deals for the next seven days

Friday (today) – go here to see and buy what’s left of the fabulous Prai supersize Pearl throat and Decolletage cream and serum duo, amazing value.

Saturday – so excited for this! It’s already online now so go and see the Laura Geller beauty basics face, eye and lip five-piece collection on 3 Easy Pays. It includes a fabulous line-up – I use Laura Geller away from work nearly all the time – the super blusher; the famous award-winning Balance and Brighten, which gives amazing coverage and is so easy to apply; the eyeliner – which I currently have in my make-up bag at work, to do under my eyes (since I stopped using powder to help my dry eye condition) and more. Check out my social media for a full make-up demo including on my Facebook page. Or check out this short clip!

Sunday – Wow! It’s back! The Ninja Foodie max one lid 15-in -ne is here! It’s basically an air cooker that also bakes, dehydrates, is a slow cooker, could be a pressure cooker, and also steam food. It is genius. The capacity is 7.5 L. Now a lot of people will do elaborate stuff, and the demos from our lovely Gail are mouth-watering and inspirational, but what I use it for most of the time is as a mini oven. Heating up one or two portions, warming things, and if I have a lot of vegetables to cook, pressure cooking. It is so fast and will save electricity rather than heating up a big oven. There isn’t even really much to assemble: it’s really easy to set up and to control.

Thursday – The long-awaited shark hairdryer innovation is finally here, with styling brush. Catch it on sale online earlier in the week, it’s sure to be popular. With new technology they’ve been working on for ages, this is their entry into the premium beauty device market. Check out the demos and see what you think.

Friday – if you need an excellent outside light, how about a bright 300 lumen bionic floodlight with remote control from Bell & Howell? They produce some fabulous products and I will be looking out for this because we need more illumination around our car park area.

Friday 9 pmShark are back for yet another vacuum offer, this time the corded one. Phil Parker will be wowing with his demos as usual.

Next week – Another lovely week down in Devon for a writing retreat with some of my favourite people; tea with the girls; and changing to a new estate agent as the sale of my writing retreat continues. And hopefully an afternoon tea with lovely Sheila from Holsworthy, who I always talk about in my fashion hours because she wears it all so well!

Quickfire Q&A with Jackie Kabler

‘The Murder List,’ Jackie‘s seventh novel, is this week’s book of the week.

Q1. What made you choose Mary as the heroine for your book?

I needed somebody a bit different for this storyline – Mary has a very interesting background, and things may not be quite what they seem with her! That’s about all I can say without giving too much away…

Q2. She’s a crime writer – is it your favourite genre too? What books do you read?

Yes! I would say 80% of what I read is from the crime genre. Crime writers are my rock stars. I’ve read every single book by Ian Rankin, Peter James, Tess Gerritsen, Harlan Coben, Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham – I could go on and on!

Q3. What’s the best thing anyone’s ever said to you about your novels?

Somebody sent me a message to tell me they hadn’t read for years until for some reason they picked up one of my books. They wanted to tell me that I had re-ignited their love of reading. That was just incredible to hear.

Q4. What’s your writing routine?

I’m at QVC three or four days every week, so I cram writing into the other days when I’m at home. I like to start early in the morning, usually after a workout or a run, and then finish about 4 o’clock. I’m not very good at writing in the evenings – I’m an early bird.

Q5. What’s in store?

I’ve recently signed a new four-book deal with HarperCollins – a book a year for the next four years – so I’m currently working on the next novel which will be released in 2023.

A slightly longer than flying visit but still not as much as I would’ve liked, but I did get to see my daughter Lauren, hubby Nick, her lovely baby boy Jasper, and three-year-old Phoebe. We had some lovely walks in the fields around the farmhouse and converted barn where Nick and Lauren now live.

We also had some fun times indoors, not just going for Sunday lunch at one of my favourite places, but showing Phoebe some of the recent things I’ve been trialing like that Nails Inc TSV! Also see below, about that.

Phoebe decided one morning that she would like to wear all grown up Nails Inc nail colours, which she raided my bag for! And she posed so beautifully, bless her little heart. She would need to take it off not long after though, no doubt!

I had tons and tons of baby cuddles, obviously, and he is really filling out now and you can start to see what he’ll look like as a little boy! Absolutely gorgeous!

Committee

Before Wales I visited Devon for a committee meeting for my Association – I can’t help it I’m a bit of a geek and I love committee meetings like this! I know a lot of the faces now after five years, and we had a gorgeous lunch again, catered by Jon in the White Hart. Had a bit of a nightmare getting there though, who knew that Holsworthy Memorial Hall came up on Google as being in a place called Bradworthy, so my journey from the hotel in Bideford in the morning, was nearly twice as long as it should’ve been! I wondered why my two satnavs were pointing in different directions! And then one of the hottest, most unpleasant journeys I’ve ever had with the sun beating through the windscreen as I made my way to the west of Wales by Saturday mid evening. But it was worth it to get there and spend time with my girl. I just wish it was all a bit nearer 🙂

Blake

Whilst I was away in Wales with Lauren, my son Brad has been on holiday in the Maldives. The honeymoon destination, I think. Blake loves swimming and the sunshine and she is so grown-up now aged 4 1/2, don’t you think! Kaleb, AKA Bam Bam, has also enjoyed himself although Brad took a couple of days to unwind before he started relaxing and enjoying it. Does that happen to you? I do hope that doesn’t happen to me when I’m away this summer for my extended break. I think within half a day I will be fully relaxed when I go to Amchara in Somerset! Fingers crossed anyway 🙂

Jubilee weekend deals

It’s finally here! A four day weekend, and some super offers courtesy of Qvc. Click the link, when you see this picture and hopefully you can see something lovely to treat yourself to! I had a marvelous show featuring Lola rose clearance the other day, again go here to shop this gorgeous jewellery brand. Anna and I had such fun! Watch out for special clearance shows with Anna every month for the next few months and some big news coming in the autumn!

Watch

Someone asked me about all of the miniseries I have yet to watch still, and I must admit I’m still catching up and chasing my tail given how busy I’ve been lately. So, in answer to the question, if I sat down in front of the television now I would be watching – Outlander – Gentleman Jack – Pam and Tommy – Ozark – Bridgerton – just to name a few!

And I’m looking forward to Elvis at the cinema. My friend Rachael, who did the make-up at my daughter’s wedding alongside my niece Becky, has said she will treat me to a belated 60th birthday treat at Selfridge’s cinema: I think it’s like an Everyman. Maybe I will see that film! It looks really good don’t you think?

Podcast

This week, Will spoke to SBC Skincare’s Brand Manager, Nancy Mason, about the family business, her time spent travelling the world and what’s coming from SBC Skincare in the near future. Next week he’ll be chatting to Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards who’s bringing her own Fashion Edit show to QVC in June. You can listen to all the Inside Q podcasts here.

Omg serve me right for staying too… – Debbie Flint QVC Chat| By Debbie Flint QVC Chat

Omg serve me right for staying too Long chatting to my lovely friend after our shifts finished tonight! Got home and remembered I needed to do my blog…

Have a listen to this morning Dawn chorus, which I caught on Monday night, after staying so late after my midnight finish chatting with Miceal! What lovely noises! How many birds do you think there are? There’s got to be hundreds?

Also thank you to my lovely mummy for keeping my balcony plants properly watered. Although I took five big plants down to Lauren for her new garden in Wales so it’s got a bit more room. Don’t forget to check out my Facebook live every Thursday as well, on my Facebook page. Just search #thursdaybantz! Whilst you are there, look out for an earlier vlog called ‘Quick Eye update’ from last week, when I also wore blue Nails Inc nails! What do you think? I also did a Facebook live looking ahead to British brand weekend and Jubilee weekend actually on Qvc‘s Facebook page as well, have a scroll back and you might find it!

Book of the Week

Well of course it has to be Jackie Kabler’s new one doesn’t it! ‘The Murder List’ is out, and I highly recommend it. I will start reading it soon and next week I will have a little chat hopefully with Jackie which might appear on my social media first, so do follow me, links are below.

Meanwhile, I have been really really enjoying and impressed by an author I found recently called Neal Lancaster. His novel ‘Dead Man’s Grave’ will be loved by anyone who adored ‘Line of Duty’ I think. And it is ably narrated too. I whoosh through it on my long journeys, and will definitely look out for more from this author. This one is based on police corruption in Scotland and connections to gangland killings there and in London. A colourful array of characters I wanted to spend more time with. I do love discovering new authors who have already written lots of books, don’t you?!

Had one of my top days out again, searching for ancient bits of artefacts down by the river at low tide.

Met my lovely niece Chloe and her fiance Gareth in Greenwich, had a super lunch, which was absolutely delicious, then spent the afternoon enduring bright sunshine then showers then more sunshine then showers, whilst we walked up and down the foreshore and picked up our booty. Mostly little bits of pottery, a few bits of pipe stems, oyster shells galore, and old old bones. May have been a bit of a rubbish tip at some stage, the river bank, near the Royal Observatory area by the Trafalgar pub, what do you think? And we even found a section where it looked like it revealed some kind of burnt remains just below the surface, with old strips of leather and old bones. We thought possibly they had a fire in the old days! No idea how old the old days were though.

Since I talked about doing mud larking, lots of people have said they would love to do it with me, so I have some willing mates and family to go and spend the day with, doing one of my favourite things. I just love things ancient, historical, archaeological et cetera.

One of the best parts of the day is always having a nice cup of tea afterwards and I took this funny photo next to one of the ship-related displays inside the Trafalgar Pub!

It was a great day and I hope to do it again soon, probably back nearer Rotherhithe where I was so successful and found a more diverse range of items back in January. Sharon and Dawn were very impressed! See below. In fact, Dawn said she’d like to come with me one day as she was very jealous of my day yesterday. (You need to get a license obviously that is £92 for three years, but it’s not difficult, just Google it if you’d love to do it.)

Btw, whilst we were there, I saw evidence of the latest film crew to book the Royal Observatory area as a location. Apparently they were filming a 1936 Olympics movie and we saw some of the old cars! The site is used often as a film location, I’m told.

I’ve never been round Greenwich Observatory or the Cutty Sark, so I’m definitely going to go back there again at some point in the future.

Lovely Chloe is the niece that is getting married in July and we have her hen weekend coming up mid June (which she knows nothing about, so I won’t mention it here!!) Lots of lovely times ahead! Just need to make sure they all happen now!

Snippets

Meeting up with Sharon and Dawn my old school friends

Had the most lovely evening as I always do with my wonderful mates from school. I’ve known these two since I was nine. That’s 51 years. I hear myself say those words and I can’t quite believe it! Funny. They came round and my place was a tip, so I spent most of the afternoon getting it ready, rushed to buy the food, came back, got ready myself, then got the food on… just in time! If only they knew 🙂 LOL. Well they did know because I told them! We compared grandbaby stories and tales from when we were at school together and just after. Mum popped in as well, and they had a nice little chinwag and a cuppa. We’ll meet up next for Dawn‘s birthday in October and who knows, maybe a trip to the Thames mudlarking with Dawn in between.

Garden Party

Thanks very much to lovely George and his fab wife Sally for playing host (for the patrons group for which I am chairman), as last Sunday we had the most wonderful get together in the garden of their gorgeous manor house in Walton-on-the-Hill. We were so lucky with the weather. I arrange these events from time to time for my association in Surrey, and I was very thrilled when they suggested this one, it was a great success and everyone had a nice catch up.

This weekend I’m off gallivanting to get-togethers again: to Devon on Saturday for a big all-day meeting including lunch, after which I will be spending a couple of nights in Wales again as I need baby cuddles! Lots of miles on the  clock – hence looking around at electric for the next car, Any recommendations? Mind you, they are saying it’s at least six months waiting list at the moment so I’d better get a move on!

Incidentally, I’m very chuffed that the VIP guest at a recent dinner I attended, has been back in touch with me and I’m hoping I’ll be able to arrange an event that he can attend too. But not till later in the year – especially considering what’s ahead of me for this summer!

Daisy Dog joins her sisters over the rainbow bridge

Very sad that poor Daisy dog had to be let go this week, but she had been very poorly, wasn’t really able to move around and one day just couldn’t get up. Thank you so much to my kind sis in law, Amanda, and niece Evie, doggy cousin Beau, and originally brother Derek, for looking after her since the start of the first lockdown. She had a lovely few last years. Very sad but she was 12 in March, so she hasn’t lasted badly for a Labrador. Even though my other two shown in this picture (Patch on left at back and Holly on right) were 15 when they died and her sister Gracie (on left at front) was nine. Run free, pain free, Daisy dog, over the rainbow bridge, we will miss you.

Watch

Talking of final journeys, I am loving, loving, loving, the very last season of ‘This Is Us’ and I finally watched the ending, which, after six seasons was highly anticipated and it did not disappoint. It was amazing, what can I say. Still reliving it now, especially the way they portrayed the final journey of one of the main characters as being on a vintage train. I’ve loved every minute of this emotion-packed, drama-filled, funny series. Highly recommended.

Too busy this week to watch anything else but determined to go and see Maverick at the cinema very soon! Top Gun 2 has at last come out with Tom Cruise looking fabulous as the feisty elite pilot . Can’t wait!

Blooper

I haven’t got a whole clip, but if you watch the very start of the video online currently for the smock neck sequin dress by Nina Leonard (191350), on a show I did with Alex last week at 11pm, you will see a bit of a tongue twister gone wrong! I was trying to say “I like the look of what Nick looks like…”! Far easier to say what I changed it to in the end!

Podcast

Really enjoyed listening to Craig’s one lately, and now you can listen to lovely Lee Hohbein talking about his recent tales! Next week, Will speaks to SBC Skincare’s Brand Manager, Nancy Mason about how she immersed herself in all areas of the family business, her time spent travelling the world and what we can look forward to in the future from SBC Skincare. You can listen to all the podcasts here.

Vlog

Here’s one for you, featuring Saturday 28th #TSV Dyson V10, and behind the scenes at my flat! But also look on my social media for when I went mud larking earlier in the week!

Book of the Week

Still listening to and enjoying ‘A Tidy Ending’ by Joanna Cannon. If you loved ‘Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine’, you will probably love this!

But can I give a big shout out for the upcoming imminent release of our very own Jackie Kabler’s new novel ‘The Murder List’? She’s put the trailer for it on her social media so do go and have a look! It looks fascinating and I can’t wait to hear it. I will get it on audio obviously and have pre-ordered, as you can. Will fill you in when I start listening to it!

QVC top deals for the next seven days

Friday (today) – go here to see and buy what’s left of The gorgeous slider sandals I’ve been wearing a lot recently – and after about a week of wearing them in, felt very comfortable even on my Wide Feet. Catch them before they are gone, if they have not gone already!

Saturday – check out my videos for this brand-new Dyson V10 , launching tonight, by following the Vlog link above. And also, if you need more reasons to buy this one, have a look at this write-up from one of the Dyson experts!

“The v10 is the machine that was developed to replace corded vacuums completely. It’s genuinely one of the best deals ever on a dyson product at qvc. It was a big jump in suction power and battery power and it’s the machine that all future models are based on. Whenever anyone asks what machine should they buy, if they want to tick every box, my answer is anything v10 and above because it was the first of its kind”.

As you will see from the early bird link online now here it is only £249.96! I cannot believe it! Get it soon.

Sunday – A very unusual one – the Innovators Santorini single daybed! It has a foot rest as well, and you can see it here now as it’s already available.

Had yet another birthday treat from my wonderful sister Linda, when she took me to see the Sally Morgan show at Epsom theatre this week. Nothing came through to us like it did when we went in 2009 (the videos are still on YouTube and we made it onto her TV series!), But it was very entertaining and good fun. I love all that esoteric stuff! Nice to spend some sister time as well, as I did in the high street this week too, although she might have wished she’d left me at home… see the ‘funny’ below!

Bumper Bundle

My goodness did I come back to lots of cards after my two weeks away for my 60th birthday celebrations – see last week’s blogs! This is what met me at home:

And this is what I came into at work on my first day back this week! Thank you to everybody who sent one in, I felt very spoilt!

I would say the birthday fun is more or less over, but I’ve got other things planned for later in the year, so watch this space! It’s been a watershed birthday to remember though, that’s for sure :-).

Snippets

One of the things that was waiting for me when I got back was this ‘Beauty Steal’ for May, from Gatineau. The Hydra Aura cream/mask/serum is multi-purpose and especially good for dry, dehydrated or sensitive skins. It says that amongst other things, you can use it as an extra layer of hydration all over your face and neck which I shall be doing, especially after this recent sunshine!

When I was away, I met a lovely lady who likes QVC, in a shop in the Center Parcs complex, and we were discussing my skincare routine. I said Gatineau is my go-to for problem-solving, and that’s just what this product does! Don’t miss it in May.

Had a flying visit to my niece Jodie‘s birthday bonanza in Ilfracombe whilst I popped back to Devon for a few days, after I left Center Parcs on Friday. They had a kid’s party on Sunday morning and I managed to get there at the end. She and her two boys all have their birthdays within a week of each other so it was lovely to spend a little bit of time by the seaside, see them all, and give them the little gifts. Our family have lots of birthdays in May! More to come as well – I’m not the only one!

Well, what a lot of lovely colour I came back to on the balcony as well. Mum had looked after my plants superbly, and they had blossomed and bloomed. Obviously Richard Jackson’s plant food played a big role. Nearly put this pic as my top photograph this week, as all of these flowers were from my pots. Going to minimise what’s on my balcony this year though as I’m going away for nearly a month in the summer and giving the gooseberries and raspberries to my daughter for her place in Wales – which she is quite chuffed about! And am going to give her a couple of house plants as well.

This is the plant I’m going to give to Lauren, partly because of the history. Believe it or not I have had this about 24 years. It started off as two little embellishments I got as part of a bouquet of flowers from my ex-husband Tony, way before we split up, at the end of the 90s when I was at QVC the first time round! I stuck them in water and they sprouted, so I planted them. And all these years later (and five house moves later), this is what they look like.

She’s well chuffed as it will fit nicely in her new house. Let’s face it, I’ve got more than enough greenery in my lounge, as regulars to my #Thursdaybantz Facebook Live will know!

Watch

OMG, OMG! You just have to watch Ten Per Cent on Amazon Prime, if you can. Based on the French series Call My Agent which lots of people loved, this follows the fortunes of their British counterparts, and features real life actors playing themselves in funny situations in this make-believe London talent agency.

I especially loved the actress playing Julia – put-upon assistant to the main boss, who loves him but he doesn’t know it. She is a comic genius! And man, can she dance! But I found the characters living with me a long time after it was over, and I miss them! I hope there are more series in the future.

Also watched more This is Us and Outlander, two of my absolutely favourite series ever. But it’s the last season of This is Us and I know I will miss them as well, so I’m trying to pace myself! Also, there’s a new series of Grace on ITV as well, and as I love John Simm, that’s next on my list.

Blooper/Funny

Got back and had some sister time and got caught out by the hot sun when I forgot my sun hat. All I had was a screwed up Bo Peep bonnet in the back of my car. Still, I had to wear it and must have looked a right state! Sister thought it was funny when we had a coffee in Banstead High Street! #BadLadyLOL

Podcast

Absolutely loved Craig’s one last week. Please listen if you can! Next week Will Gowing speaks to Stephanie Metkus, Vice President and Brand Ambassador at Korres skincare. You can listen to all the podcasts here.

Vlog

I finally got to use a product I’ve been waiting to use for ages! Plus, lots of vlogs from the holiday! Take a look here and don’t forget to follow my social media to see it all in advance!

Book

An unusual one for me, as a recommendation from a friend I listened to the audiobook of Recovery by Russell Brand. I had mentioned that someone I know was having problems with alcohol and my friend recommended this book. Now I would normally not touch Russell Brand with a barge pole. But having listened to this, I’ve changed my mind. He is so eloquent, articulate and intelligent in his writing, very poetic in parts. And very spiritual.

It’s about his journey out of dependency into freedom and self-loving rather than self-loathing. And his own version of 12 steps which is quite funny. Really worth a listen if you find you are repeating patterns, whatever the problem you face, or someone you know faces. Highly recommended and I have bought it for several people I know!
